Greetings from Raleigh, NC - '84 Rx-7 SE
Greetings to everyone,
I'm from the Raleigh, NC area, and have an '84 Rx-7 SE, info which an astute reader would have gained from the title.
"The rest of the story" is that the car has been parked for about 25 years (I am the original owner), and I'm trying to determine who in this area might be able to get it back into "road-shape" so I can talk with them to come up with a budget for getting it back on the road in good (NOT showroom) condition. And this seemed like a good place to find some knowledgeable people.
I'll go through some of the forums and see what I can find out there, but it you have any suggestions, I would appreciate reading them.
Thanks for having a resource such as this.
73, (best regards in ham radio talk),

I never planned on parking it for so long. I have a history of speeding tickets, and with an Rx-7, that became more of a problem. And auto insurance costs became even MORE of a problem! So I parked it for a couple of years until my driving record wouldn't inflate my insurance costs so much. Meanwhile life happened and life happened and life happened and my plan to get it back on the road in a couple or three years turned into now.
And that's where we are now.
I'm thinking of either selling it for someone else to fix up, or having it repaired for me to drive again. As for the engine, about 15 years ago I called an auto mechanic on the radio, and his advice for that (and he knew the make/model) was to change the oil and put in fresh oil with a healthy portion of it being "Marvel Mystery Oil". Then disconnect the plugs so it wouldn't start and just let the starter turn the engine over for a few minutes to distribute the oil and let the "Mystery Oil" do its magic. That's about all I remember from his advice.
Although I have done some mechanical work on my cars, including the Rx-7 (replacing an alternator is the main thing I remember), even though I studied mechanical engineering in college, unlike some people suppose, there are no classes in automotive mechanics for MEs! (Also, the university does not train electrical engineers in TV repair, which nobody does anymore anyway.)
As I said when I started doing more of my own auto mechanic work, I'm not particularly good at it (I'm fair, I grew up working on machines, just not auto engines), I don't particularly like to do it, but I was paying high prices to get lousy work done on my cars, and I can do lousy work for free! :-)))
So advice, education and encouragement are solicited.
