FL Greetings from Palm Beach!

I'm the new owner of a 1995 FD3S Type R from Japan, glad to be here! I've been lurking for years but it's finally time I come out of the shadows and make my presence known. My FD has 70k miles, engine bay is bone stock, and the body has little to no imperfections! I've wanted an FD for 8 years now and I am finally able to grab one for an unbeatable price, $25,000 USD (which is great in todays clown economy). I won't be taking it to the track, or driving it daily, but when I do drive it I know it will be something special. The car is being built in honor of my mother, who had a white FD back in '94. I look forward to being in the community, and sharing my knowledge with others.

Welcome to the forum!! Thats a really nice FD. It looks very clean and appears to have been well cared for. The rear wing isn't my cup of tea but the white wheels to look nice!

Beautiful car. Your mom clearly raised you right if she had a FD and taught you why they're special. We should all be so fortunate. Please be aware that things were a little goofy with Series 6 (92-95) FDs in Japan due to there being 3 different versions made and the changes are cumulative. For example, Version 1's ABS system is a direct carryover from the GT-Limited Special Edition FC, while Version 2 and 3 have a system derived from the Eunos Cosmo.

Easy way to tell the Version is the first digit in your VIN number after "FD3S".1 is version 1, 2 is Version 2 and so on.

Very nice car and great opportunity to fix up and preserve a nearly stock car.

Study the year and version and perhaps revert some of the accessories to period correct (or not).

When you are able post some pics of your progress here:

Don't lose those plates!

of course ! that rear wing will be the first thing to go. It's nicely built but honestly the spirit r wing looks the best. I'll be sure to stop by that thread in the future!

EDIT - finally looking into the source of the wing, it's apparently a MazdaSpeed GT-Concept wing. I couldn't find any info about it but further research has shed light on the source.

from the site listed below "The Rear Wing for the kit is of a two-arm high-mount type. The wing is shaped for three levels of angle adjustment to minimize air resistance and lift at high speeds, and the plates on the left and right edges of the wing regulate the air flowing over the back."

it's not from the factory, but it seems to be mazdaspeed nonetheless! I might just keep it. source where info was found: https://erix7.home.xs4all.nl/mazda/ms99.html

Haha. I rather like that wing. Perhaps check into if it is some rare kit from back in the day.

Is there any makers marks on the underside?

The S8 wings are selling for quite a bit these days, but there are replicas about.

You might want to consider a replica Mazdaspeed wing, as an OEM + move.

OEM + generally means modify an FD with more modern OEM options, such as the 99 front bumper and the S8 wing.

But much of the OEM+ equipment is getting quite expensive.

Your "Sakura" floor matts (maybe $350) and metal footrest and gas pedal covers (maybe $200) could be considered OEM+ plus additions, straight out of the Mazda "Shop Options" catalogue.

yep, that's the route i'm gonna go. i've done wide-body cars in the past but this is definitely a car I want to keep as original as possible. update my reply above with info on the wing! took me a week or two of searching and I finally found info on it. I thought it was a generic wing this whole time! glad i was wrong lol

Here is a picture from the Shop Options catalogue for Version 5 cars (starting in late 1998). The earlier "R1" wing was offered as an option. Same with the side skirts. R1 wings can sometimes be got for $100. The sideskirts are running about $1500. The wheels are the S8 base wheels and can be got out of Japan quite cheaply, even in near new condition. They wheels continued to be used until the end of the production run. This car has the S8 front bumper and lip which was introduced for Version 5 in 1999, and is also found on the Spirit R. The red mudflaps still pop up NIB (new in bag). Other colours are expensive in the used market. The sideskirts are tricky, as any used ones will likelly need a re-spray and it is hard to find a shop willing to take that on, due to the 'pool noodle" like material they are made of.

From December 1998 "Shop Options" catalogue.

Well if you are starting with a Mazdaspeed GTC wing, you are really ahead of the game. Congratultions!

(I have several Mazdaspeed catalogues. Perhaps I will look up that wing later.)

If the paint on the car is original, you might want to preserve it as best you can. If it has any dings, or other storage type damage, you may be able get a professional ding remover over to work over the car. I had about 30 imperfections eliminated over an 8 hour session for $800. Much cheaper than a respray. You might want to look for a ding remover that also works for high end car dealarships. Mine would pop over to work on my car between regular durties at the local BMW dealer.

The ding remover also measured the paint thickness on my car and confirmed no prior bodywork. Priceless!

Very nice! Welcome!! I’m new to the forums as well! Hope to cross paths on the roads of Palm Beach. I’m in Jupiter. I recently got a 94 FD. It needs a little tranny work… yoke is leaking. But soon hopefully and fingers crossed, will be able to get it out officially!
