Getting Started....

Hi Everyone,

I'm supposed to introduce myself... This is me. An expat New Zealander living in Colorado trying to revisit memories of blasting around windy roads in my bright yellow RX2 Coupe with foot long flames out the **** of it.
Couldn't find an RX2 to work on so I found a running but completely butchered RX7 GSL-SE and then realizing I paid too much for it once I started looking at all the broken it missing items on it.
So many parts are missing that I bought a "mint" condition 85 GSL with rear end damage to use as a donor car. Obviously for everything but the engine.
At the moment I'm trying to get it to pass emissions without the complete emissions setup. I've reattached the ACV to the air pump but have issues with the rusted out exhaust manifold flange attaching to the converters... which are also rusted out.
At this point am I allowed to ask questions yet?
Has anyone on here ever built the own emissions passable exhaust system? I was thinking of trying to save money by building an exhaust with the catalytic converter in line and the ACV pumping air in behind it.
Completely open to suggestions.

Thanks,

Dylan

Welcome!!! Would love to see pictures of the car!! You can ask tech questions in the 1st Gen tech section. However getting the car to pass an emissions test without the proper emissions equipment it came with originally may be an exercise in frustration. I would never remove the emissions equipment from an SE. It gives you no power gains and only adds to the chance of terrible running conditions.

Will do. Got my wisdom teeth pulled out today along with a busy week getting the car setup in the garage for winter.
I Yeah. It was already all butchered up and so rebuilding it seems like such a hassle for only a passing test. I'm thinking of other alternatives if I can't find all the parts for an '84-'85 FB 13B That was one of them. I think it would be possible to figure out a passable configuration. The remove the section when not in use.

Got bigger problems with the differential not sitting straight in the **** of the car. Hoping it's the bushings and components and not so much a non straight car.

Some pictures of both cars...

Here's the GSL and the GSL-SE. The GSL has the rear end damage but is in really good condition otherwise. The opposite can be said of the GSL-SE. Need to start a thread on the "help" section regarding what to do with the rear end....

84 GSL-SE with pretty much broken EVERYTHING!

The good side. The other side has fender damage.

The bad side of the '85 GSL, unfortunately the same driver's side damage as the '84 GSL-SE... But it has a mint interior.

Tire blew in Wyoming.

The good side of the GSL

4 x 16x7.5 Bolt Pattern 4x4.5 TSW Hockenheim Rims for $100. Score

Think they'll look real nice!

This is a fantastic way to accumulate knowledge and guidance on building a classic piece of art and technology.
Thanks!
All the emissions equipment was of when I got it. Only remaining piece was the ACV which I have put back on but the hoses are all a mess still.
