Future RX7 owner
Hello,
I've been a big fan of the RX7 (and rotary engines in general) and am finally at a point where I can afford to get one as a second car. I'm looking to stay relatively stock once I get one - maybe shed some "spare" parts, but overall I would like to stay stock... for now.
Right now I drive a Mitsubishi Eclipse and am looking forward to getting into something with a bit better power/weight ratio.

I have, actually... I found a '79 rx7 locally for a steal... it needs a bit of work, but nothing major & it comes with a bunch of spare parts. It's already on the road & drives fairly well. It's been well taken care of - the current owner has sprayed the undercarriage with a rust protectant every 2 years since he's owned it.
It needs points, a paint job & some (mostly minor) interior work. The dash has a crack & the seats need to be reupholstered (it comes with 2 replacement seats so I'm not worried) and there's a crack in the vinyl on the drivers door. I'm going to be picking it up this weekend & will try to post pictures when I get the chance.

There were 2 spots that had rust, but it was very minor surface rust. I'm going to sand the whole car down & get it primed until I decide what color to get it painted.
Any recommendations? I'm thinking black with a light metal flake. Either that or a dark blue. I'm not really worried about staying with a stock color & the original color is the aqua/turquoise color

The OEM grey looks nice.
I especially love 1st gens in white or any car in black looks great (your choice sounds awesome). I honestly think 1st gens look best with simple colors.
Have you seen innocent blue mica? It looks great on a 3rd gen. I have no idea how it would go for a 1st.
I'm having color woes now. My shop is done painting my car and I've seen it in person (TGM). I'm wondering if I made the right choice. Maybe I should have gone with snowy white .

I like black, but I think having just a small amount of metal flake would make it really jump out at you. not as much as a candy red would, but enough to turn heads (more than the 1st gens already do).

Here's one of the pictures from the guy I bought it from... it's not the greatest quality photo, but it'll give you an idea...
The glare from the sun makes it look worse than it is.

I crawled underneath & everything seems solid... it has been sprayed with a rust protectant so I can't see bare metal, but the floorboards are stiff & feel solid and none of the places where you normally see rust felt off...
The paint actually isn't as bad as the picture makes it look.. it's just faded (for the most part). I knew it needed a paint job from the start though.
