First gen and first rotary

Hello everyone! My name is Kris from the SF Bay area. A couple months ago i was perusing Craigslist and found a 1982 RX-7 GSL. It was not running properly and the owner was going to junk the car the next day. Went to look at the car that same day and payed the guy the same price as the junk yard would have, $300. I towed the car home and after a very short diag session found one of the rotors blown. I looked into rebuilding the 12a but then i received an offer too good to pass up. In exchange for helping my friend with his s14 ls1 swap he would give me his ka24. So I will shortly start a thread on the swap.

Thanks! The louvers were half the reason I bought it.

The louvers are sexy! I like the rear of the 2nd gens better than the 1st but with those louvers that looks damn good! Nice purchase, wish I could've got that deal! A ka24 will be pretty interesting to see. Planning on keeping it n/a or doing a ka24t?

It will be na for a bit. This will be my daily driver so I want decent gas mileage which is part of my reason for swapping. But I do have a nice little t04e sitting on a shelf...hmmm lol

Its definitely not something you see on a daily basis. Good luck with the project seems like a lot of work but then again I haven't really looked into it. Make sure you post up some pictures when you get it swapped.

The resurrection! Good luck on the build. I'm sure once she's up and running, she'll turn some heads.

Funny, The louvers were the first thing I took off my 85 SE I just bought (they were pretty beat up). The Louvers have been on the car since new (I'm the 2nd owner) and they did their job (kept the sun off the deck carpeting and plastic side panels. They look in great shape for almost 30 years. Now if I can just figure out how to get the hinges off (they are glued to the glass!)

So wait, you are going to put the much maligned KA24 into an RX7?

Oh that is deliciously evil; so evil I must say it E-vil.

I have hated for years the way the SR and RB fanbois bag on the humble, but capable KA on my Nissan board; it will be great to see somebody do this! I can't acquiesce to my Nissan buddies who want me to put a CA18 in my new FC, though, sorry.

The previous owner told me he found the louvers in a junkyard and just swapped the the whole hatch

The ca swap does not sound like a good idea to me either. My main reasons for doing the ka are:
1 better gas mileage
2 more power
3 **** people off

I love my CA18 and it could be made to produce the power, but it's the tail wagging the dog. I'd entertain it in a Miata, but not in an RX7. Now when I said I wanted to put a 2JZ in a GT-R they started lighting torches and storming the gates!

1. Yeah, gotz to be
2. If it even starts you are ahead!
3. You had me at hello on this one.

I spent $300 on my first gen as well. Yours is in much better condition than mine was. When I got mine, my nikki was in pieces in a box, it took me forever to get it back together.
