Finally got an FD.

Well i finally got myself a 1999 RHD FD that I imported myself last month.
I just took the engine out 2 weeks ago and stripped it down to the bare metal. I look forward to putting this all back together, now i needs to get some porting templates. Time for me to dig into this forum a bit more.

Cheers,
Gene

Great start to the project Gene, and best of luck. You should consider starting a build thread to document your progress here, so that we can follow along and provide any help or feedback.

When you reassemble be mindful that the coil set up on S8 cars is different from the USDM cars (and USDM FSM).

For the Version 4 and newer cars, Mazda changed the mounting position of the coils. Also the coil harness and ground was simplified.

You need to be mindful when re-hooking up the coils.

Some folk will use the USDM FSM as a guide, which could result in the plug wires or col harness being attached in the wrong order.

This may result is spark happening in the fuel charge prior to the full compression stage.

At high revs, the could result in damage to the seals from premature detonation.

Basically, don't let anyone that does not know this issue touch your plugs, wires, coils.

If the car comes back from the shop running very rough, suspect this problem.

I gave you the links to the Japanese manuals. Even if you can't read, the illustrations are very helpful.

You especially want to print out the wiring diagrams for your year.

Congrats on the FD! I imported my 99 FD back in July and love it. Did you rebuild due to low compression?
