So I'm currently in the process of dealing with a guy in Texas for a FD3S roller. I was able to talk him down to a decent price and he proved to me that he had documentation for it. Only problem is that the title is canadian and it is still in the previous owners name. Will I have a hard time transferring it into my name, registering the car in Texas, and/or have to pay any taxes that he neglects to mention? thanks guys

first off welcome to the forum. i agree all states r different. if when the texas guy bought it and the canadian guy signed but didn't date it u may not have too much trouble. it would be like u bought it from the canadian guy. probably best to check with ur local dmv. u don't have to tell them u bought it yet, just give them a what if.

 

hmm well i think i did see a date on it, oh well i think i'm going to chance it, i got a pretty good deal on it (not good enough to seem sketchy but right around the lower average you'd expect for one of these).

 

sounds like a headache that can be avoided for a roller honestly. If it was a super clean/pristine complete car that was worth any potential hassle, maybe worth it. A roller? Pass for me.

 

Honestly really sketch that it's still in the previous owner's name. could you maybe contact the owner and ask for title transfer if u buy it? imo too much of a hassle but if u think its worth it bc of good price or otherwise, then go for it.
