CA Been reading posts for months... time to join in!

Hey there. I bought my '91 Convertible back in March of this year for $800. It was running, although with a bad idle, and sorely needed a new clutch (slipping badly). As expected for $800, the leather seats are torn and worn badly, the top is torn in several places, and it floods. However, most of the interior is in good shape, the paint is still glossy except for the trunk lid, everything works (even the AC), and it generally runs fairly well except for idle (no smoking at all except when starting after flooding).

But most important, the car had zero mods (well, except for an aftermarket radio and some ugly "chrome" plastic wiring loom over some of the hoses and wiring). Seeing as these weren't common cars to begin with, and the junk yards are becoming littered with them, I figured this was a perfect restoration project. The only problem is the mileage at 174,xxx. I think I'll cut my teeth on this one, fix it up mechanically, fix the major cosmetics (top, seats, etc.), drive it for a bit, and sell it for a lot more than I paid. Then I'll go buy a low-mileage convertible and restore that one correctly.

This is my second RX-7. My first was a 1982 S model, which I upgraded to include most of the GS equipment (salvage yards are great). I have also owned many Miatas, and countless other Mazdas. In fact, I am a very active member of the San Diego Miata Club (my other half has an '08 Grand Touring), and I recently completed redesigning the club's website.

Anyway, I have just started tearing into the car in the past month, pulling the engine and tranny to replace the clutch and every hose, gasket, and belt. As you can imagine, I have come across several surprises, but that's half the fun. I have read hundreds, if not thousands, of posts here at RX7Club.com. I'd like to say thanks to everyone that has contributed, and I hope to contribute greatly myself!
