CA Asking help searching for my late mother's car.

Hello, I found your website on google and i'm starting a quest today to find my mother's 1979 RX-7. She and my father sold it when I was a baby to buy a family car, and after divorce and now her loss to breast cancer last year, i'm very curious if the car still exists anywhere to maybe buy it and restore it.

I took the vin number SA22C502564 to AAA and they said it's no longer registered so that leads me to believe the kid she said she sold it to in the early 80's (85?) might have wrecked it or junked it but i'm putting this out in the hope it's maybe been parted out or is sitting somewhere lost here in southern california.

I ask that if you know of one around check the vin number for me in the vain hope it's not become aluminum cans.

If the vin number gives any details about the car I think (I think it was red) I'd love to know which type it was. She said she waitlisted the car like 50th in line but got to the dealership first after the delivery. Any details would be appreciated. One DMV cert said Mazda CP (which I assume is coupe), another said model QA, another said class BR Type 120, but I don't know what the dmv means by any of that.

Anyway, thanks for the website, I'm going to try the DMV to see if they can release me records of the last reg or if it was marked totaled, etc. Wish me luck.

there's a thread on the site that has a listing of sa's/fb's with vin #'s. it's like an owner registry. but that's a list of on-the-road or project cars.

Aww.
Found out it was sold 12 years ago to a San Fernando scrapyard. Trying to track down which one, but most likely it's long scrapped. Maybe somebody saved the engine or the body is sitting in the back storage yard somewhere, but here's where I guess I quit. Thanks for the help.
