SC Another Rotary Newb

My name is Matt, I'm currently deployed to Afghanistan as a contractor out of Summerville, South Carolina. I have been looking at FD's for about a year and now that I'm on the way home I'm going to buy one. Before I do I hope to learn alot and ask enough questions to make a smart decision and a purchase to keep me happy for years. Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated, I currently own a Srt4 and plan to use that as my daily driver. I am looking to purchase/build a street monster that can make occasional trips to the drag strip. I have a budget of about $35,000.

Welcome, Matt!

Good luck on the FD search. Perhaps picking up an FD w/ a 20b would be a good choice... Are you looking to keep it rotor powered?

Absolutley, there is a 94FD with 20B swap in Florida I have had my eye on for about 3 weeks now. I have really been struggling with the idea of buying one sight unseen. The build was completed at A-Spec and I have read nothing but good things, I still find it hard to purchase a FD that has had so much work completed without seeing it first. Any tips?

I can understand. It is an expensive purchase and you want to be sure it is "right". Ideally, you would find something local that you could check out, but monster FDs with a quality 20b swap sure aren't common. You may keep looking and see what pops up, but you may have to end up making some trips to see the car and check it over. Don't feel like you have to buy it on the spot with a single trip.

You could always do a build (that way you know exactly what you are getting), but you get more bang for the buck (by a long shot) by letting someone else do the work and take the loss on the time/money.

I know that I would be nervous also dropping that kind of cash on something that I have only seen for minutes/hours. I would take my time and make sure it is "right". If it sells first, you just keep looking. I'm sure that you will find something.

Hopefully, someone else that has had experience buying a car like this out-of-state will chime in and let us know what they did.

Good luck!

I really want a 20B FD, 30K+ just to get the swap done. If I was going to be home longer than 4 weeks a year I would consider that, but my current situation limits my time at home to be able to do things myself. I just pay people to do it for me so I can enjoy it while I have time...... 1 mroe year and I'll be good to go
