HI Aloha

Just talked my wife into getting an 86 gxl, got an ok deal on it, but it needs ALOT of work. Body is really good shape, and the motor is strong, but the tranny is making a funny rattling sound (at first I thought throw out bearing, because it dosent do it when the clutch is in, but it seams louder than a throw out bearing), and the moonroof has to be replaced, the power steering dosnt work, and the clutch slave cylinder leaks (slowly). Also the AC doesnt work and there is no radio (or surrounding trim), other than all that the car is GREAT! I convinced the wife that I can fix all that stuff (which Im pretty sure I can) so now we have a great RX! My dad had upwards of ten different RX7s when I was growing up, and I had an 85 and a 79 when I was younger. My wife also had two second gens, I think an 87 and an 88, so it wasnt too hard to convince her to get this one, just had to prove that the baby seat would fit in the back seat (which it does... barely) haha, anyway... Im sure Ill become a regular on this forum while Im fixing up this S4!

I ended up getting a perfect condition OEM power moonroof off ebay for a $150, easy install, the tranny noise ended up being cracked transmission mount spacers, which I replaced with racing ones from mazda trix, and the throwout bearing, which was a project to replace, clutch slave and master cylinder replaced, and I managed to get the AC working by just adding freon, clock I fixed by resoldering the coldsolder points. Replaced outer and inner tie rod ends and ball joints and the handling greatly improved. Installed a pioneer radio, just to find out the speakers were blown, so I got some used ones and threw them in, car was a sweet ride for cruisin around Oahu. Sold it when we left Island, and doubled my money on her, wish I coulda kept that one, because it had the folding back seat, which was perfect for my daughters, now I have the 88 TII, not so good for bringing them with me, but a whole lot faster.
