All I can think about is FCs
When I get my heart set on something It's all I can think about, and right now all I want in the world is a FC. As soon as I sell my shitty *** honda I'm buying one as quick as I can, hell I might buy one before I sell my honda. I'm new to rotaries, I spend a lot of time this last summer working on the civic which was the first car I've ever bought with my own money, I learned a lot buy working on it but its time to get a real car. I check the classifieds on this site multiple times a day dreaming about when I can get my hands an FC, N/A Turbo II It doesnt matter as long as it runs and its got a stick I'll be happy.
Well actually I need it to reliable because its gonna be my DD but I figure I'll slowly build it up- maybe take it to some NASA HDPE events but probably not turn it into an all out race car. I'm learning how to fabricate things in school so a few years down the road hopefully I can put together some nice custom things but for now I'm pretty noob.

I found a clean 86 N/A with only 50k miles and no rust for $1700. No mods, phone dial rims. This seems like a pretty good price to me, anyone have any comments?

As soon as I buy one I'll post pics, I'm looking to spend under $2k. As for style/aesthetic my favorite is a white FC with the turbo hood, but honestly the number one thing I'm looking for is reliability and not much rust. As much as I'd really like more powerful car like a S5 TII, I'd be perfectly happy with an N/A S4 especially because if I ever take it to a track etc the best way to become a better driver is to drive an underpowered car.
I'm going to try to buy the S4 mentioned sometime this week but the biggest problem I'm having is actually getting to it, it's about 75 miles away, my current car doesn't run, the owner works 7 days a week and none of my friends have cars. No trains run out that way, hopefully I my f***ing distributor will come so I can get my honda running and get out there.
Pics of the car I'm looking at:
Back seat! Those things are absurd.

little itty bitty Japanese children
anyway Muad' Dib that S4 looks like a good deal if really only has 50k on it
here are some thoughts to consider
be prepared to spend the next year getting all the little things taken care of;
-brake pads, rotors, lines fluid
-spark plugs and wires
-belts
-trans fluid change, upgrade to something like Redline MT-90
-coolant flush (radiator still original?)
Since it sounds like you're going to drive it more than race it don't get carried away with performance goodies.
Look into what your local NASA group offers in the way of autocross before running out to do their HPDE's.
What's nice with the autocrosses is that they are usually pretty close by, not overly hard on your car and you'll quickly find where the weak points on the car are - also do your first one completely stock so you know what your starting point is.
A good set of springs and adjustable struts will be WAY cheaper than a set of coilovers - which would be overkill.
An extra set wheels for the racing tires (tires are your best/cheapest upgrade fotr the amount they will improve your times) - you should be able to fit them all in the car on race day and change them at the track
Set of strut bars and sway bars with adjustable endlinks
and leave it at that for year or two

I see. Pretty much what you have in my opinion is a solid FC. Looks great and the best part is that it is unmolested. No upgrades, stock everything....and again excellent mileage.
Take your time with it, and definitely frequent these here forums. It's a good outlet in seeing how other owners manage their cars and awesome for generating modification ideas too. You said that this would be your daily driver so my suggestion would be to keep close watch on oil levels and coolant. If extra money is available, invest in a good tune up kit....plugs, spark plug wires, oil filter, fuel filter...and all the other necessary parts. I think this FC would look great with a 5 lug conversion ( if not already 5 lug) and even some S5 Turbo 2 meshies, some lowering springs and your set....not too agressive but a definite upgrade from the phone dial wheels it's rocking right now as well as current ride height.....just my .02!

there is a whole lot more available out there with the 5-lug conversion
but I have seen one set of phone dials I actually liked
the guy polished them till they looked like chrome, they looked phenomenal
OP see if www.edgeracing.com www.tirerack.com or www.discounttiredirect.com has any wheels you might like
and I got my last set of Tokico Illuminas from www.shox.com for a very reasonable price

.yep..good deal if is has 50k on it..IF you are gonna Keep it STOCK.Otherwise if you have the intention of Taking the Motor out or doing some Mechanical modifications to it,you would be better off getting a Shell...and all I can think about is All the freakin Money that gets Blown on My FC..I "should"have bought a Honda!..But then again,Nothing Drives like a Rear wheel drive Sports car(RX7!)!!.
