Do you have any idea on its maintenance history? Knowing what has or has not been done could help you prioritize. If not I'd do all the unfun scheduled stuff first. Depending on what scheduled maintenance you do this could lead to a host of upgrades.
Once your done with the scheduled maintenance, you can start on the reliability mods that will help the longevity of the engine. A quick search on the forum and you will have a plethora of information you can comb thru.
Your next mods should be a PFC or other standalone EMS and a tune at a minimum, add fuel system upgrades if you want to make more power and then expect to have issues with the sequential system operation if everything was original when you purchased. If you smell gas under the hood replace the fuel pulsation dampener if you will not be changing up your fuel system.
