85 gsl-se in Sunnyvale,CA
My name is Smokey. Newish owner. Revived an 85 gsl-se after sitting for over 10 years.
Running nice, but needs fine tuning. Checking in to see what info I can pull from the resident rotorheads here!

My first step was pulling the fuel line in the engine bay. I cranked it and had the fuel flow into a clear jug. I was comfortable with what I found. Nothing unusual that made me want to dig into the tank.
I replaced all the rubber lines, fuel/air. Did a fluid change throughout. Some basic maintenance besides that. She runs great, with a few small hiccups. Mostly just odd idling issues I'm working out.
The vehicle sat for over 10 years because of the eccentric shaft pulley. A mechanic had started the work and for whatever reason the job sat for 10 years uncompleted. I got a new/used pulley set and opened the front cover to inspect the torringtons and get the key reinstalled onto the shaft. All my work paid off in the end.
Car was purchased for $100, towed home for free by AAA. $30 in immediate parts and it was a runner. Got me a sweet gsl-se for a steal!

dang dude what aa steal and its mint. I picked up mine for 400 bucks sitting across the street. I'm at the point where it runs but idles at 2k and front end damage due to deer but that's about it. I've looked all over for vacuum leaks but hard to find I guess. Congrats on the car man just happy to see fbs still on the road.

I joined for the same reason. Looking around, I've got a lot of educational post reading to do. I've got a GSL-SE myself.

Good stuff man. I like the black interior.
Being the carbureted model I wouldn't have any good advice for your car. I have not had the pleasure of working with a carbureted 7. Vacuum leaks would seem like the obvious culprit. Have you adjusted any of the throttle linkage or tps, or anything related to idle speed?

Get a can of carb cleaner and spray around the vacuum lines/intakes pipes. Once the engine starts taking in the carb spray, it'll drop in RPM, there's your leak.
Did you replace all the vacuum lines? Set the TPS using the 2 bulb method?
Make sure the Air meter flap is not sticky. There should be a check list somewhere in the 1st Gen section.
Good luck with your SE.

I'd go through all the basic maint stuff, cap, rotor, plugs, vac lines, filters and wiring. See where that gets you.
