VA 85 GSL SE noob

Greetings! I finally found my GSL SE and love it!! Its pretty rough, in need of body work and some engine work, but in general a VERY nice exaple of what mazda can produce. I'm not a racer, but appreciate a nice sports car with very nice lines. I'm not going to bother with tweaking out the engine and suspension, but rather keep it original and comfortable. Looking forward to chatting and meeting others in the Mid-Atlantic states and beyond!

Are you planning on doing the body work yourself?

well, the body filling and smoothing out is something I am planning to do with my son who is 12. I'm seriously debating with myself to do the painting myself. I've painted a pickup truck that really didn't matter how nice it was, but I want this to be REALLY nice. I'm going to replace all the rubber trim and perhaps the bumpers, but I'm not sure I'm up to the job of doing the painting up to my standards. If I thought I knew the right technics with the right tools I'd like to do it, but I'd HATE to screw it up. I'm trying to do the interior with the same standard, and am comcerned about the center console and stereo. Any help/suggestions would be welcome!

get a cheap spraygun and try and paint on a scrap pannel, its not that hard as long as you have plenty of cutting compound and wet and dry paper afterwards

I'm a network engineer and feel that mechanical work is much like working with a computer. you just get in and take steps that make sense without being afraid to make a mistake. Granted, don't stupid about it, but just do it and expect success. Thanks to you all for your willingness to help. I may just take you up on it!
