Hello, I have had this account for a while, but never posted. About a month ago I purchased a 79 in daytona blue, the car had been sitting since 90'. Unfortunately about a week after I got it I noticed it was burning a ton of oil, so I did a compression test (results were not very good) tore the engine out and stripped it down. Anyways, my intention is to do a driver quality restoration, I look forward to using the site and gathering some knowledge from all you guys.

Welcome!!! Very nice 79 you have! Daytona Blue is an excellent color and the Panasport wheels look nice! Would love to see a build thread on this in the 1st Gen section!!! Do you know any of the car's history?
Welcome. Daytona Blue is a rare color. Is this an S model or GS? Looks like it's a 5 speed, but has a 2 spoke steering wheel. Does it have an electric rear hatch release?

As far as I know the original owner was a girl who purchased the car in 1980, she was a college student at the time, she had bought it in the Portland area and thats where it remained, unfortunately I did not meet her, she took it to a local rotary collector who did the brakes, fluids, water pump, filters, etc. He is the one who did the transaction. Thats about all i know.

Well you would probably know better than me haha, but as far as far as I know it's an S? Due to the lack of sunroof and electric hatch release. It is a 4 speed, but it has a 5 speed shift ****, the original owner had a 8 ball shifter and I really was not a fan of the look, so the collector i bought it from threw in a 5 speed shift **** for me. It also has this super cool mid 70s? Pioneer supertuner which I intend on keeping in the car.
With a 4spd trans, no rear sway bar, no center console, no windshield sun shade, no electronic hatch release, no dead pedal, and a 2 spoke steering wheel are all indicators of an S model.

Thats what threw me, S models had the 2 spoke wheel and 4 speeds. You got the 5 speed shift lever along with the ****. 4 speed levers were taller and didn't have the bend at the top. S models did not come standard with the exterior body moldings either. Dealers could easily add those things for a little extra profit. In addition to what Dave listed, S models did not come with intermittent wipers or map pockets on the bottom of the door cards either.
To be fair, the 5spd **** and shifter threw me as well. My first thought was that it was swapped with a 5spd trans. Never would have figured someone would have installed the shifter and **** from a 5spd!
