For you AUdio Guys...

I took all my stereo out of my 87 and just re-installed it into my 89. All of my stereo meaning (deck amp and sub). Everything went totally smooth, it sounds great and works great, but i think i may have missed something, or confused my power wires or something. Everytime i turn the car off and turn it back on all my settings on the deck reset. its getting frustrating cause i like to have it set just a certain way, and have to redo it everytime i get in!

I think there are some wiring differences between the S4 and S5, the one I know of is the power antenna is wired differently. Unfortunately I'm not a stereo guy, I can hook up speakers but that's about it.

you didnt hook up the constant power wire for the stereo...... its the yellow wire, and you have to hook it up to a constant power soarce....

Usually you'll have two power wires - one that gets hooked up to a constant power source (Which remembers all your presets and clock time etc) And one that gets hooked up to a switched power source which only comes on when you put the key in the ignition. Chances are that you have these wires reversed - constant power where the switched power should be, and vice-versa.

Take the radio out and switch those two wires - chances are that'll fix the problem.

This is exactly the problem. No question about it. A lot of people accidently switch the yellow (constant battery power) with the red (switched) because red has been beaten into people's heads as "The" power wire. So don't feel bad, everyone (who works on stereos) has done it at one point or another (at least, if they don't use those damn handy wiring harness adapters).

That is why you use a 12V tester lamp or a multimeter

BTW - Those wiring harness does save time, specially when you are on a time frame

Asuming you dind't installed both yellow and red wire to the same source, and that it was a mistake as it was said before; just swap the red & yellow cables source. Otherwise I suggest a cheap 12V tester lamp, in order to find the right sources

thanks for the info. was curious as to why it would always reset.

A friend is giving me his old head unit replace the factory one in my '87. But I don't know what I need to install it. Crutchfield has links to mounting kits, wiring harnesses, antenna adapters and auxiliary input adapters.
