will this work

I was talking to a friend of mine who installs stereos and said it would be very cool to have 2 6.5" speakers with a seperate tweeter in the doors. Two jl audio 8" in the rear quarters and two jl audio 10" subs in the hatch area. I already have all the speakers and amps except for the 4 6.5" speakers for my doors. I have a set of door pads around that I will use to cut up, and I am looking for the rear quarters for my 8" jls'. Does anyone know if 2 6.5" speakers will fit with some modifications? Any help please. Sorry this is for a 1994 rx7. Thanks.

Too many speakers! The fewer speakers the better... for sound quality anyway. Neat ideas if you don't care how it sounds.

You can prob rip out the airbag in the steering wheel & install another speaker.

if i understand your question right, yes a 6.5" speaker will fit in the stock door location (with a custom mount, obviously). i have 6.5" in the door and have seen people put the 7" dynaudio in there without much trouble.

A 6.5" speaker w/ a shallow mounting depth (2.5") will drop right in no problem (this assumes your car is non-BOSE). Anything past that, forget it.

There is no point in having two 8" speakers in your rear panels w/ two 10" subs in the hatch. Why? Because you won't hear them. You can fit component speakers up front, however, as in my post above, the woofer needs to be of a shallow mount. You can mount the tweeters on the little plastic triangles behind the side view mirrors, or cut holes in your door panels and flush-mount them. If your amps have a built-in crossover, run your high frequencies up front, and your lows to the subs.

a component IS 6.5 (well w/e size you want) speakers with seperate tweeters..

if your thinking buying seperate tweeters and having a 2-3 way speaker there.. itll cost more and will most likely sound worse.

dont know if thats your question, but thats what i got out of it

I don't think you understood at all what I just posted. "ApG Spaz" is on the right track.

Now do you mean coaxial speakers w/ a separate tweeter??? (Stupid idea, BTW.)

Or component speakers aka separates (woofer + tweeter)???

The latter, yes you can, however, make sure the woofer is of a shallow mount (no more than 2.5") and will clear the window.

Thanks for the info. I am sorry I wasn't clear before. I want two 6.5" woofers and 1 tweeter in each door. I don't want coaxials that is what I have now and although it sounds good I would like a little better sound quality. Thanks also for the info on not putting the 8" subs in. They were left over from another car I had and thought it might sound good. Guess not. Also I plan on having to modify the door panels anyway so does it matter that the speakers have to be no more than 2.5" deep?

2.5 depth is to clear the glass in the window when it's rolled down
