I agree, there is no reason it shouldn't fit, but there may be some side effects.

If you would consider a more shallow (albeit SQ oriented) subwoofer, check out Illusion Audio.

My JL 12W0 is good enough for me. Pounds good enough for the FD, since the cabin is so tight.

Shattered the hatch? I have trouble believing that unless you were burping at competition... A W7 will definately fit in the hatch, its just the box that matters. I would recommend a different sub to you though. The W7 is cool, but too expensive for me. I would recommend a Resonant Engineering HC or XXX. They would cost less and the XXX would pound just as hard. www.respl.com

The W7's weigh 50lbs. a piece. That's way to heavy for a speaker in a rx7.

weight isnt that big of a factor if you arent racing it. I am designing my boxes so they can be removed in under 2 minutes. I am putting in the pioneer 5000spl 12" subwoofer. They are capable of high 160db with one sub.

It will fit but it's just too much for an FD. FD has a small cabin so you'll have big pressure.

it isnt too much pressue. Its only too much if the listener thinks its too much. Some people enjoy the car being so loud that it breaks seals and windows

but over 100Db for 15min. can cause damage to your ears and for a sub that will hit 148 or better it will take less than one min. to damage your ear.

have you seen the pioneer Im speaking of, the reail is $900. They just set the world records with 9 of these subs. Its been proven and tested at over 160db, its actually documented by usac, check the stats before you question

And by the way, there is a typo on the description of the sub, just pointing it out cause I think it is funny. Have you personally witnessed this sub in competition hitting high 160's or are you just going by what Pioneer says? We all know that manufacturers claims are not always accurate *cough* Rx-8 *cough* Im not calling you a liar or anything, but with an RMS of only 2000, and max power of only 4000, this sub is not going to hit high 160's... Your going to need more power and a sub with greater power handling to do that with along with a hell of a competition car. Im not saying im right or your wrong, its just that I dont believe that sub is capable of what Pioneer is claiming.

its been documented by usac (united states autosound competition. 160 is not unheard of for a single sub. Ive run two mono block amplifiers at 2000watts peak each into this sub personally and it took the power without bottoming out and any major distortion.
