will a black interior swap depreciate your fd.

This question was raised when my dad said i was"dumb" to swap my tan interior out for a black one because he claimed it would depreciate the value because it didnt come factory with it.I think if anything it would add value because of how much more sought after the black is. what do you guys think?

Well, it depends on a few things. Is your FD a collector's model to begin with? Extremely low-mileage? If not, then I don't think you'd be hurting the price any. Black interior cars are much more sought after than their tan counterparts.

Besides, if you are really that concerned, just keep all your original parts so if need be you can always swap them back on. Just a thought...

27,000 miles? If you plan on keeping it for years and years and years as a collectors car then YES your dad is technically right. Its not factory.

That being said, an FD is an absolutely RETARDED investment. There are a million other things that would net much better return than an FD. Drive your car, enjoy it, do what you want with it. There is no guarantee the FD will EVER be worth alot of money.

Also, if you dont want that black interior I'd be happy to take it off your hands

True True ,i personally dont mind if it does i want black interior either way i was just proving a point to my dad.Any how i do see where he is coming from,he collects older corvettes and something like a wrong color interior on a car like that and it will mess up the value.

I think an FD will appreciate eventually. A 27k car is somewhat rare but judging by how you even want to swap the interior and the mods you already have on it I'm guessing you are going to put some miles on it. If you had a 10k FD I would say don't touch it but lets be honest here, you look like you are going to be driving that sucker. Change the interior out. It will be worth more to people buying non-cherry cars.

Tan interior is not worth much. I think I sold my whole set for around
$400 - $500 and it took a while.

I think FDs havent sky rocketed because of the problems people have with rotaries. God knows its not because of its killer looks.

One has a crazy reliable engine that everyone and their mom understands how to work on. The other has a pretty unreliable engine that needs "reliability mods", and not many people are keen to touch.

I cant imagine why the supra would skyrocket in value and the FD stay "cheap"

I agree, it kinda boggles my mind that a 15 year old car with 170k miles can sell for that much. It's not a daily driver, it's not a classic yet, it has enough miles that you would think its almost time to replace every bearing, seal, and piece of moving metal on the car can still go for $25 grand in a 10% unemployement and declining import scene economy.

That being said, I've been in the market for a new car and have looked at Supras, but I just can't justify that much money for a car that old with that many miles on it.
