Wide fenders for an FC...

I'm looking to get some wide body fenders on the FC for clearing my 225/50 R16's up front. Right now they touch the coilovers and are exposed out of the stock fender by no more than 10mm. I'm aiming to put on some wheel spacers to take care of the clearence issue with the coilovers but I need to upgrade the fenders to something wider.

Originally I had planned on picking up some the D1 fenders which have an increase of 20mm, however I'm starting to think that might not be large enough. I'd like to use the Mariah racing ones but the price is twice what I'm looking to spend, however they're the only ones that seem to have/sell 30mm fenders. Is there some one else that I'm missing? If there aren't any other 30mm fender makers/distributors then I i'm starting to wonder if I can actually get the 25mm and be okay with clearence.

Thoughts/ideas/help?

You do not need widebody fenders to run a 225. Heck, I've seen 245's under stock (rolled) front fenders. If you're really running into some clearance issues, roll the fenders. Widebody fenders may be cheap, but getting them painted to match the car isn't.

I saw you threadjacking in another thread, but I'll answer you here. No one will be able to tell you the needed spacer size if you don't give us wheel specs (width and offset). Something like a combined 30mm offset on an 8" or narrower wheel will be perfect (I run Flex with stock fenders and 225's and I've NEVER rubbed either with 8" wide wheels and 30mm offset). If you're looking at spacers with studs pressed into them, go for the more expensive quality ones, you don't want a cheap stud breaking on you now do you?

Corksport makes some relatively cheap 30mm fenders.

Didn't mean to thread jack the other one. Pulled up a search and it was the first one's that came up. I'm not sure on the offset, but the rims are 16 by 8's pretty sure. I'll double check the offset in the morning.

I'm really scratching my head on this one because for whatever reason they do have clearence issue. Not only are they touching the coilovers, but they're also exposed outside the fender. I've set the ride height as close to stock as possible (maybe an 1/2-1" drop max). The tire used to fit fine under stock conditions... I figure I'll need a spacer, but if the tire is already exposed as much as it was before it it's only going to be pushed out farther. Here are some pictures to give you a rough idea of what the rim and tire are. The scale is 5"

Here's a pic back when they were on stock suspension with no issue:

I've looked at the possible widefenders to cover the added portions of the tire. I'm thinking if I put on a 15mm spacer then I'll have to have at the bare minimum a 25mm wide fender (as the tire seems to stick out about 10mm or so). As for paint matching it's not going to be a problem as the entire car needs a paint job (it's all different shades of red, maroon, grey... you get the picture).

Measured the tire, looks like the backspace is roughly 5.125 inches or so. I believe the rim size is 8 inches. I can understand hitting the coilovers, but why do they sneak outside the fenders as well...

Fixed everything. The rims themselves were not machined so that all could fit on the front correctly. Ended up that the one wheel I was trying to figure out didn't have enough of the spindle machined out for the front so it was teetering back and forth so when I would check for clearence on the back side of the coil overs I would hit, and when I went to check the clearence on the fenders I would hit.

Now that I have the wheels on there correctly I adjusted my ride height to be a little taller, not necesarilly a good thing, but it works. This allowed me to clear the suspension with about 10+mm of clearence, I am barely sneaking under the fender. Shouldn't be too much of a problem though for in the near future.

I'll probably pick up some wide fenders and some spacers so I can lower the car a little bit. (it looks almost like a tonka toy to me)
