Here Dey Is!
Alrighty guys...I can't take credit for this except I did make it look a bit better than the one I saw...this would be the ultimate in stealthyiness...

What kinda sucks is that I bought cavellm's pfc mount and was trying to bend it and it broke...oooppss Anyway, I am totally happy with this verstion

does the ashtray cover just pop off the ashtray? that's where i have mine currently mounted, minus the cover.

i was thinking about making some sort of pop up door/cover for that.... something like the din-pocket in the R models....... i'll have to try your method first though... don't have to worry about bumping the buttons while shifting

edit: can you see the whole display with the cover on?

If you want to jack with the buttons you just take the cover off...

If you want to just see the display then you open the ashtray cover...Very cool looking as in photo 2

If you want to have it all stealthy then you close the ash tray...Very cool looking as in your closed ashtray.

So Mi love it man!

Did I mention that when the ashtray window opens it's the exact same size as the commander display? If I didn't mention it then YES it is! it's freaking awesome...

Sweet solution apnea!

The only problem for me is the inconvenience on looking DOWN to check my readings....

Plus, at night, do you see the green glow from the screen threw the seams for the ashtray?

I think this is the best location. I can see it when I am driving and it's not in the way of anything...

Nope, it seals it off pretty well so no green glow...As far as looking down, yeah, that could be a problem if you look down when driving high speed in trafic...But the way I see it I never look down for longer than a second and it's alwasy when the coast is clear

Hmmm did you already do it??? I might do this today....

I noticed that when I took my ashtray apart that you need to keep some sort of "rail" to keep the door sliding....

what did you do?

I just met a local 7 owner and he bought a 94 single turbo that's all tricked out...Anyway, when he bought it the previous owner (who know's who it is but was from minesota) did it that way...Personally I have never seen it done like this before...Just where the take the ash tray completely out and stuff it down in there...Personally I love it like this...totally hidden yet easy to access with the window for viewing or lift the cover off to mess with your settings...I'm sticking with this one...

The rail has to be cut off the bottom piece once you unscrew the top from the bottom...I cut it with a dremel and a cutting disk...You can see where I cut it in this pic

You will also have to remove the center console and remove the belly thing for the tran and cut it to fit the commander...once it's cut then you just use silicone to hold it in place...

fastrx7man,

i know what you mean about the best location....

I'm just not a big fan of guages....

Cavellm is here in Dallas and makes a great mount...which I think puts it in a similar or identical position.

What I was thinking about doing was having the LCD mounted with some type of hood on the A pillar...that way it is even easier to see...

then the controlls would be separate and place in the driver's door bin....the only problem is that it's alot of custom fab work

it's not a cellphone holder. go to your local auto parts store, buy an extra cig. lighter (don't want to ruin your original one). get a credit card size plastic piece, superglue it to the cig. lighter. then use velcro to attach the commander to the plastic piece. plug the light into the socket.

You guys think you could do the ashtray hiding technique with the JDM armrest ashtray replacement? You wouldn't have the slide open for visual only option, but if you could figure out how to keep the hinge in there, you'd be able to open the whole thing at once to do things.

That's a pretty decent idea of a hinge...RonKMiller makes the arm rests and is going to start selling them any time soon...I am sure he can figure something out.

i found a decent place to mount the commander. i started out trying to do it the same way you did apnea, but i completely butchered the 'pocket' that the ashtray sits in.... pics to come later today or tomorrow sometime.

jimmy, did you get it done yet??

I was thinking about having a stereo installer do something custom and have a hinge so the top flips open!??

As per the request of many

I just globbed silicone glue all over it to hold it in place.
