What is the sound quality of the Bose center speaker?
What is the quality of the Bose center speaker? I think the AMP to mines is broken, and the repair would cost about $100... so I want to know if it's really worth it? Does it really fill in the highs (it's a tweeter, right?) that well?

that goes back to your opinion of the bose system. i have talked to bose at great length.
My audi has the best car stereo i have ever heard and I wanted bose to supply the same stuff to me to put in my fd. I figures it would be synthetic materials etc...wrong!
It seems its the same paper stuff in the FD. Ours are just worn from the heat and age. Same goes for the amp...its basically the same technology today as back then. So then it goes to soundstage. Bose said the audis system would not work in the fd because the fd has a different sound stage...the audi did a good job a of bass reproduction due to the distance from the speakers and that big *** trunk. The fd is right up on you and has no sealed trunk.
The end result is that they made certain compromises to the fds system to account for the sound stage...one being the center speaker is used to fill more of the mids and highs to round out the sound stage. If you have an after market head, then you have defeated the system.
So the end result according to bose..send in your 93 system for a complete overhaul and it will sound better than anything you could ever put in it aftermarket.
My opinion...bs. the new alpines with programmable delay systems can create their own soundstage based on the available speakers being used. Newer speaker technology is vastly superior to older paper technology....some will debate paper sounds warmer, i dont agree and neither does any of the high end audiophile companies. Who wants warmth from speakers in a car.
end result..take the $100 and put it towards a good after market head...get the scosche adapter and wire in a good alpine to recreate the soundstage without the center channel. To my knowledge the cross over is in the bose head not in the amps. You need to have a high powered head to get the bose amps to turn on.
the bose system when in good shape is not a terrible system...there are just many more much better options.

Oh, so the center speaker isn't just a tweeter? Well, I already have the stock deck out, and I have a replacement Sony deck in there (I know Sonys are crap, I didn't choose this deck, the person who sold it to me did) w/ the Scosche adapter. Eh, since it's just another regular speaker, I'll just replace it with a center gauge pod.

I love both my bose systems in the FD and the S4. I sent all the amps for repair along with the speakers and bought a Kenwood headunit with the adapter and the sound it great. I'm not a huge car audio buff, Don't need my car to shake w/ bass or anoy the crap out of people. It's just loud enough and the sound is clear.
I would send all the amps and speakers for repair you'll be happy.

Honestly, I don't seem to notice the lack of a middle channel in my system... maybe I'll just hold off until I get some more money to throw around.

Bose=marketing=overpriced, mid range quality.
Of course I have the bose in my maxima and it is nice, but I certainly would not go to any trouble to try to replace it with bose components if they were broken.

I finally got around to buying a replacement speaker (turns out, the speaker was just baked to hell - https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...ghlight=center). I must say, the replacement speaker really brought the highs to life -- I am TOTALLY satisfied with the stock Bose system, now.

With what many people say about the Bose system, I on the other hand think its great. Im not into base pounding but more clear, crisp sound. The fact that I want to keep the car stock looking helps the decision also. Depending on the song, I have heard some pretty good base comming out of that baby so im happy with it!

I just figured it was 10 years old and needed to be replaced! Used an Alpine unit with JS Audio speakers. Doubled my hatch area by taking out the wave tube. 6.5" rounds in the doors, properly sealed and damped, 5X7s in the rear quarters, properly sealed and damped. Boost gauge in a pod on the dash (to be joined by a J&S knock readout). Great bass, midrange and highs (after adjusting with the Alpine and a test CD).
