fd is short for the chassis code for 3rd generation rx7s. Any rx7 from the years 93-95 (US at least) is an fd. They were made much longer in Japan and elsewhere. fc's are the 2nd gen, and fb's are the 1st gen.

think form one year to a point it was sa22 then it changed to fb. not 100%sure on the years tho.

SA's are 79-80, FB's are 81-85, FC's are 86-91, FD's are 93-95 (in the U.S.)
