???? what to do about mazdaspeed hood??
I was wondering about this the other day.. Does anybody have a problem with water getting into the engine bay with their vented hoods. I have the mazdaspeed replica and my car comes back from the bodyshop this Friday(hopefully). I wondered what keeps the rain and weather from getting in my engine bay and rusting up my polished parts???
Looks like it vents right at my IC which is completly polished. Major bummer I think it's time for front mount huh?
Any thoughts or suggestions anyone......

I don't have mine installed yet. I won't until I get the car repainted, probably this coming winter (a ways off).
Anyway, I've heard of magnetized strips that you can use to block off the vents. Really though, unless your car is outside parked in a rain storm, it's not going to be a problem. I doubt a *little* water will hurt anything.

Damn Rikki,
I was just going to say the samething, or just put a piece of plastic/cardboard.
I dont have anything, but the intercooler piping doesnt rust, very few weeks I go out and clean my engine and after I do I hit it up the IC piping with some metal polish...

Well, your polished parts are probably aluminum which doesn't rust, but it will get some corrosion, so your concern still makes sense. Maybe a little wax would keep the surface from degrading.

I've got that hood and a PFS intercooler. Never had a problem with rain or anything else for that matter. I'm from the school of thought that water won't hurt anything, and so far it's worked out fine. And when you're driving, the aerodynamics of the car certainly won't allow much rain to get through those vents. But if you're stopped it'll just cool down the intercooler (that's a good thing!)

well, if you install steel mesh in the vent holes you can just cut some magnetic material in the shape of the vents ant slap them over the grill when you park in the rain. Let us know how it looks when you get it back. We always like to see finished pics of our hoods!
If anyone still wants one (rikki) then we still have the group buy thread, check it out.

Trust me guys, if you splash thru some puddles (I know we're not suppose to, but it happens), water will get up into the engine bay even w/o a vented hood - alot more then you might think.
I remember splashing thru a bad storm once, and opened my hood in the garage and found dirty water stains on my hard intake pipes.
It's no big deal really. If you get into a situation where you really do need to be concerned about excessive water intake, you would probably be in a situation where you would be worrying about other things - like swimming to shore....
As for up keep of polished parts, make sure you use a good polish regulary to keep things nice an shiny. I use POR15's Artisan Metal Polish, makes polishing SO easy, and almost fun!
