What could be wrong with my stereo?

All right, so before 5 days ago, my car hadn't run in a year. For about 7 of those months, the car had no battery, and during that entire time, I never touched anything dealing with the stereo. Now, fast forward to 5 days ago. I drop in my new motor, throw in a new battery, and everything seems peachy at first.

Well, that is until I actually pay attention to my stereo. Everything is set the same, the amp is still getting power, but my volume level is, literally, halved. The volume at 40 (max) is the same loudness as 20 used to be. If nothing had been touched from then to now, other than a new battery, what could possibly be causing this?

I mean, I paid a good bit of money for quality stuff, and the fact that at max volume I can barely hear it over my engine is quite dissapointing. Before my motor let go, though, I was happy as can be.

So, do you guys have any ideas?

Thanks.
