Wetsand methods?

Finally decided to do the repair from my little guardrail incident (for those of you that heard about it ). I just used spray paint, masked the area off, and layered on a few coats.
Obviously that sticks up a few layers above the original paint for the rest of the car and I'm wondering what the best wet sand method would be to blend it?

Start with 400grit wet/dry paper and use a rubber block. You can take it up to 600 or even 1200 if you want. There really is no method just keep it wet and get it as flat as you can.
