under body coating

I recently picked up a 94 FD from Georgia and I noticed the floor pans have a couple dents in them, most likely form someone jacking it at the wrong point. and also when I looked at the under carriage of the whole car it looks as if there is some kind of a thick coating covering the whole car except for the engine bay.

1. can I just straighten out the floor pans, and 2. Is that coating normal for these cars? It seems like it is easy to peel off, and if so I would like to re-coat the under carriage. Any suggestions?

You could straighten the floor pans, though good luck getting them perfect, unless they are massive I wouldn't even bother.

As for the undercoating, it's generally dealer installed and doesn't really help unless you are on gravel roads a lot, in fact it can even trap water if it's peeling. Peel it all off and use something like por-15 or even truck-bed liner (get the stuff that doesn't have "sand" pre-mixed into it)

I am no body guy, but I would assume some kind of an abrasive brush or even an air tool to remove that under coating. unless a simple scraper will get the job done.
