turn monitor into gauges

is there a way to use a flip out dvd monitor to read car data like the skyline. just curious im sure it would involve stand alone engine management.

AEM makes a computer adapable system, perhaps a few others, but they require a In-car computer instead of just a screen.

I was considering it, but now I am completely lost for a Stand-alone so we'll see..

If I remember correctly the new Pioneer in-dash TV's should have that feature. Something like Battery volatge, Compass, and something else. Too bad, they arent Boost, or Water Temp

The HKS CAMP system was able to do that.

I think they discontinued it though.

Edit. Looks like you can still purchase it.

I was thinking of installing somthing similar one mine looked around a check what I found. It looks pretty amazing with all those features and the best thing is that I think it can fit in the pocket beneath my Mp3 player quite eaisly.

The flip out touch screen looks really great. Have a look and tell me what you think. I bet it must cost really a lot though.

The Pioneer is cheese, it only does speed and amps and crap. The CAMP can do boost, EGT/Water/Oil temp and pressures. The system is only $297, but you need to buy a junction box, sensors and of course a monitor.

yeah but all that will cost over a 1000 bucks, if you start buying all that. What can you monitor with just the camp cpu without junction box? Also will this work on all cars?

It's universal it works with any car. Just look at the link I posted earlier to get an idea.
Here's another one that shows other options you can purchase.

Looks like an fd only rhd???

I dont think it will do anything by itself. Its like a motherboard with no processing system it will just sit there. You need the harnesses to connect the sensors to the system so it can get a reading to display.

You need something to create a video signal that the monitor will understand... The AVIC-N1 from pioneer does it directly from the signal wires from your car... it has built in processors to interpret the data. You would have to buy (or make) some kid of signal processor to do this...

As far as that goes I alreday have all gauges that monitor all those parameters. It is having all the other functions of the pioneer that would be and added bonus especially the abaility to auto map since there still do not exist maps of my country whcih can be really a maze believe me.

The camera addition would be also very helpful especially when considering the huge black spot the 7 has. Just need to find a good spot where to place it.

Anyone knows the exact price?

What I would do is build a cheap computer, should cost around 200 bucks (don't need alot of speed, but some good ram and a fast small HD) Then get a computer program that can read sensors (there are MANY programs like that on the net) then hook it up to a monitor (can be found for pretty cheap)... now what you have is a computer hooked up to a monitor and stereo, so you can play all the music you want, you can get navigation software, voice recognition software if you want hands free, you can watch movies, monitor AND have some adjustablity (depending on the program you purchace) for your car, you can hook cameras up to it, and have wireless internet, you can have streaming tv with a tuner.... and if you make your own box to hold the computer it can be mounted ANYWHERE, you can even use the cd rom drive as your cd player. and it can all be done cheap if you know how to shop and know what you need.
Thats just my 2 cents.... oh yea I've already done this whole thing with my subie
