Question trying to remove bose

Hey guys, I am an average joe driver in a not so average kick-a third gen rx7. I love it to death and will update you more as I make mods on it and get more $$.
Anyway, my project right now is upgrading the stock bose audio system. I have an alpine cda-7878 that i installed just fine and i have an alpine amp mrv t757 two channel amp that i bought for my alpine swr 1240d subwoofer in the rear.

I have not installed the sub or the amp yet. I also have a pair of alpine sps 1629s speakers for the front.

Anyway, when taking out all of the bose equipment, the technician that did it, said that the bose side speakers came out with an enclosure. How do you mount side door speakers? Are those enclosures necessary and where are the amps for the bose system specifically located or better yet what do they look like? i am trying to install this system and i actually sold the other one to another rx7 owner but if i cant install my new system i am not going to sell the other. all help would be greatly appreciated. thanks everyone!

the bose door speakers are built into an enclosure in the door. the enclosure is a small ported unit which may have its own amplifier built in.. (i think that bose systems usually use active speakers...ie each has its own amp) the function of the enclosure is likely to improve low frequency extension on the tiny driver (don't think it's even a 5.25). in order to mount an aftermarket speaker, you'd either have to size it exactly like the bose and mount it in the enclosure....or make a new baffle board and size it to the door opening and new speaker. be wary that when the window is rolled all the way down, it severely limits the mounting depth of this driver. my measurement shows a max depth of about 2.5 inches....no problem for most 5.25 inch drivers, but pretty tight for anything larger. as a general rule, mounting a "free air" driver in a door is the easiest approach, however, just screwing it to the metal door hardware will sound no better than the stock crap, no matter how good the new drivers are. ideally the front of the speaker is acoustically isolated from the rear of the speaker. this is accomplished by using a rigid baffle board and using damping material to seal the door panel as much as possible. it's hard to explain in words, but i can't stress enough how important the install is. i've heard component speaker sets costing over 1000$ that sound like **** cuz of the install. it's not as easy as it seams.

good luck....you can email direct if you have other questions.
