Tripower Center Speaker Pod

Hey all, just wanted to pass on a little info about the gauge pods. I got mine last week and finally got my gauges in today... Only to discover my dumb a** somehow read 60mm when it actually says 52mm.

Anyway, I actually got them to fit, and Ed (at Tripower, who I think still believes I just played with photoshop on him) asked me to pass the info along if I wanted. Needless to say, I'm pretty proud of my grinding job and I think it'll look great, once I get my car back from the shop that is.

So forgive the horrible layout, I was trying to get it online ASAP:

http://www.geocities.com/jb_tamug99/tripower.html

If anybody has questions, just ask me! (and if you snoop around my webpage, don't laugh at the pages, I'm re-doing them all. Geocities is a PITA though.)

well, the edges were a little rough after I got finished(correction: stopped for the day, going to smooth it out tomorrow), but it's not visable once it's mounted. But it turns out the height difference between the two holes is exactly the depth of the bezel on the Apex'i gauges, so they nest really smooth. unfortunately, you can't really see it in the pics.

what are the odds that they can do one to hold a square box, say a pfc display or a air/fuel monitor display like the OZ DIY wideband monitor http://www.techedge.com.au/vehicle/wbo2/wbfmd.htm

I guess you might have heard, weaklink but I'm waiting to get a hold of an extra commander so I can take it apart and place the display in another version of this mount. In, addition I will be placing the keypad in a modified center console section. I'll have to see how it turns out before we'll start to sell them (and see how much work it is).

John,
I saw the pics, damn you're bold. Did you figure out a way to hold the gauges in place?

LOL... took you long enough to actually look at the pics Ed.

Actually no... and I played with the assembled pod over a very soft cushion (don't want to break those gauges, I think Apex makes the innards out of pure platinum judging by the price) and the only way to get the damn things out is to push really hard from the inside. So unless I install it on a car that can do 0-60 in about 1 second, I'm ok. In other words, they aren't moving anywhere. I'll probably get a 60mm O-ring or something though and slide that on the back just for added protection, and my peace of mind.

Umm, you'd have to ask Ed for the exact specs, but it's definately ABS... and from what I remember, he said it's the UV resistant stuff... good thick stuff that can stand up to that grinding I did, and the heat.

While I've got you reading this Gordon, how the heck did you get Z8 mirrors for your car???!!! You've definately got my compliments there, it looks great!

Anyone got pictures of this "center" gauge pod mounted in their cars? I'm not into chopping up the $100 unit like you did, John-which I'm sure came out fine. But 52mm gauges are cool since that's what I currently have in my dual a-pillar mount which F&$%ing sucks by the way!!!!!
I'm not a big guy (6') but:
1) I keep hitting my head on the a-pillar mount
2) It's a huge *** blindspot- I ran over a curb one night in a parking lot (F!!!-I looked like an ***)
3) My hands keep knocking into it on turns!
4) I failed state inspection with it.
5) have to dump it when my roll cage goes in anyway.

There's got to be a better solution than the "mickey mouse" option that I've seen and this looks like it might be it.
PICS someone, PLEEEASE!

There's also the DIN gauge pod that fits into one of the stereo slots. $14.95 from a Saab dealer.

I may go with this one, however (I have the DIN gauge pod, just haven't pulled out the CD player to put it in)

Check out Tripower's website, Ed has some pics of it mounted in what I'm assuming is his car.

The pictures kinda suck but it seems pretty slick from what I can tell.
How hard was it to run the wires up there?

Wasn't too bad really, the worst part was connecting the wires for the gauge power... A'pexi seems to cut them a little short, but it worked out. I've got a pic in this thread:

And there are a couple more on my website (address in first post of this thread).
