Tips for painting engine bay

Any will help... But my main question is :

Will a shop put the paint in cans for me? Or will I need a compressor and a gun to paint the bay?

to get the best finish ur gonna want to use a nice gun to lay the paint......cans dont cover too well....but if you are using a generic color, cans should be available at the local parts store....i still prefer my gun....the shop will most likely hand you the leftover paint in the can it came in....hope this helps!...

They will get it to you in a can.... Good stuff too. Just make sure you get lots of scotch bright pads and plents of water.....

Are you looking to do it yourself Justin?
I would go to Sears and buy a $40 paint gun (assuming that you have an air compressor) Hit a local paint supply (auto) and get a pint of the paint and thinner mixed up. Buy some filters for pouring.
Tape and prep it all then just shoot it yourself. Way easier in my opinon.

The best way to paint the engine bay is to COMPLETLY remove everything in the engine bay. Then you'll have to scrub it absolutely CLEAN.

Don't cheap out on painting it, if your going to rattle can it just leave it alone. There is so much work in removing everything in there it isn't worth it to save a few bucks on paint. Rattle can stuff won't last.

Jeff is absolutly right. You don't want someone to say you have a nice car and when the hood pops, they see a rattled bay.

Thanks for all the input guys. Much appreciated! My bay is stripped to the bone... So, looks like I'm off to a good start. I don't want to half *** ANYTHING on this car (If you've seen my motor you'll understand )

I have it all taped off as well. Last step is getting the paint. Looks like I'm off to the store... Don't have a compressor, but I can get one.

I'm thinking of getting mine painted and want to take stuff out this winter... but what about all the brake lines and abs shiet??

so there is no precaution of taking the lines out and have no problems w/ getting all the air out of the system??

is there NE way at all to leave the motor in and successfully paint the engine bay without it looking shotty or ending up peeling or cracking later? I mean, granted I get access to a paint gun and all that sorta jazz, is there a way to leave everything in and get away with painting the majority of the engine bay and have it still looking decent? Pulling out the big stuff is what I DONT want to do in other words, because I just dropped my motor back in, and am regretting not thinking to paint the engine bay. Ideas?

just pull the engine and all the brackets. Get a lot of Simple Green, buckets of water and steam cleaner.

Remove all brackets, and clean it.

Call AAA and say... my car won't start. Have it towed to a GOOD BODY SHOP! and have them do it...
