? for those that removed the center speaker.

I'm thinking about ordering the tri-pod center channel gauge holder tommarow, but my system is still stock. I'm worried about loseing alot of sound quality by removing the center channel speaker. Did you guys notice a big difference? Thanks.

In short. No real quality change. Reduction in volume a bit (you will loose a speaker) but no big deal.
I dunno if this migt help but what the heck:

STOP!

You will lose the nice high frequencies and your sound stage will become very bad when deactivating the center speaker.

As far as I know, you only have to connect the amp power switch wire with the aftermarket amp contol and everything will work as b4 because the Bose amp modules have high-power inputs.

See the wirings on my website.

The center speaker is for making a "BEEP" sound when you redline the car. Mine does not play music.

My sound systems out, so I've never even heard mine. At what RPM does the "beep" sound?

Thanks for the advice guys. I'm a pretty big audiophile, so I don't want to lose any sound quality. I will be upgrading everything and removing the center channel in the future, but I don't want to lose any quality in the meantime. I think i'm just going to go ahead and take it out anyways, that gauge pod is just awesome. Hey if I really don't like it I can always put it back right? Thanks again.

Tobias - Very nice site! I wish I could read the rest that isnt in english!

Yes. But the center speaker doesn't make the beep! Comes from inside the speedometer gauge.

When you remove the grille and see the center speaker, you will lose your concerns about effecting the sound quality.....

The only point of the center channel speaker is to subjectively raise the soundstage. This is the only change to the sound I have noticed and only because I was listening for it.

Hey, whatz up with your ears?!?
Yes, the center is not the best. But better than nothing, right? It's the smallest speaker in the rex and so the main actor for the freqs from 5kHz and over.
And soundstage will get very unbalanced when removing the lil guy.

I plan to remove the center speaker. And what do I plan to do thereafter? Just install a pair of tweeters and an amp within the same frequency range.

The center speaker is a beautiful location for the guage pod, but I'm a sound nut, too. You WILL notice the differance in sound quality when you remove that speaker.

Hi Flybye.

> You WILL notice the differance in sound quality when you remove that speaker

You're my man. ;-)

You can e.g. mount the tweeters in the trinagles where the mirror is outside. The best way to get at least that good sound stage as with the center you need a headunit with DSP for time delay. Around 1 ms for the left system and you will get a better sound stage than b4.
If not, just do it only with balance. But that's not the same like time delay + balance.

For those that debate over the usefulness of the center speaker, just put a jacket or something to muffle the center spkr and you know. It's that simple!

I think it balances the L and R channels.

I wouldn't mind keeping mine but it was making some crackling at high RPMS and it wasn't putting out sound. It does sound better with it in but it doesnt sound bad w/o out either. Oh yeah dont cut the wires there is a clip you just have to tear off some of that foam stuff to find it.
