Are there any professional painters in the group? I need color help.

Well I need help contrasting colors. For the car and motor on the FC 88GTU.
First off the whole car is being painted in a chosen color this means interior and roll cage same as exterior the engine bay is same as well. The next part is the motor will be painted another color. This means everything attached to the motor that is not polished “aluminum” will be painted a contrast color. I am not worried about hose lines and hard items normally found in the engine bay b/c there will be non this is a perfectly smooth and striped engine bay design that I am doing. Only item in the bay that will be painted or actual in the bay are the Brake booster painted with polished master, wiper motor with polished brackets, coils with polished brackets and that’s it.

I have 2 colors in my head or semi chosen.

First choice “one she wants” is to paint the car in the pink pastel pizzazz with a white pearl in clear.

Color clip –

But this leaves me with a dud on how to paint the engine. I mean what color what should be done here? Anyone help!

Next choice and what I am thinking “but in end it’s her car” is to paint the car in white and use pink pearl in the clear. Now I could do the motor in the pink pastel pizzazz. But she is screaming I want a pink car.

So what do you guys think? Painters out their can you help on colors and so on?

Ill start out by saying im no pro painter, but i do enjoy graphic design and took color theory class.
ive always been a sucker for analagous color schemesm, the pearl is causeing, that would let you use from a very light purple to a very light red pretty much. siting down with here and a color wheel would be a good idea
something like this could even work (i know its a bit off)

heres the site to play with

you may want to contrast with a dark metalic blue close to black. I'm not a pro but i do have an educatred opinion.

I'm a painter, id go with a nice Green/Gold or just straight black with that color
What paint line are you using?
Are you going to clear coat the engine parts as well?

Please view the sample pics I posted of the engine parts I did last time or view my blog in the sigi. Yes the parts are done just like the body of the car 3 coats of clear but yea 5 coats on the body. If the car is done in the pink it will be the exact color you see on the parts I showed.

The brand of the paint was house of kolor. However they no longer have the paint anymore I got the last 2 qrts in the world. I am color matching the paint now.

I will be using all spees paint or however you spell it.

Black is out I do not want dark colors. As stated the motor is being polished and what cant be polished like irons will be painted so it needs to match both polishing and the color of the body.

IMO as a body man and painter - pink goes with blue..........and thats IT.....the blue would work with polished parts quite nicely and if you still have your blue loom and vac lines under the hood (dunno if I viewed the right link) that would all work quite nicely

Pink is a relatively "loaner" kind of colour...especially the pale looking one you have chosen, a deeper brighter pink would work with say a gold, or even a fine mica silver.......

But I believe your options are limited here - IMHO.

Since I have said IMHO so many times, I might as well get off my chest the fact that I LOVE pink cars.......just not that shade.....deeper and solid(no pearl)....

If you go with white pearl in the clear over the pink, keep in mind, it will lighten up the base.

The pink is sprayed over a white base. It is a very ugly pink before the pearl trust me. It is a pastel a hard color to pull off. She searched a long time for the pink that hit her and that one is it.

classicauto - Thank you!

As you saw the blues they will be redone completely nothing will be used again from before. I just thought it didn’t go to well. I did see a shade of blue in the Sherwin Williams hot rod collection that I thought went really good it was a lighter pale blue. I will try this again maybe with some silver pearl or white.

I really liked my idea of white with pink pearl and doing the motor in the pastel pink but yes I think we will go with a blue any more suggestions welcome.

Whoever is going to spray, should do a letdown panel, vary the pearl until she is happy with the color.

pink / white
pink / dark blue (sparingly like highlights)
pink / yellow or gold
pink / chrome

Word of advice...get the paint off the grooves in the pulley where the belts contact, cause either you're going to ruin the belt or going to "smoke" the paint off the pulleys anyways!

thats only for clothes bro...pink and brown would look horrible on a car...pink and black looks awesome in my opinion but you dont want a dark color...i'd go with a really DEEP blue to offset such a pale pink...not a bright blue like honda si blue...more like lexus is300 blue...somethin on the darker side...if you do too light of a secondary color (white, pale blue) it'll wash the car out, it needs more depth...

I found it had zero efects. I also found if you are not paying attention and install the pully on backwords it locks and the belt spins and heated up the pully melting the clear and paint.

I should mention the color the motor ends up being done in will be the color the upolstery shop does the interior. So it needs to match well. This means the carpet the plastics and the dash. This is not a fiber glass dash just a reupolsterd factory leather dash. Of course the roll cage will be painted the color of the outside "pink".

I was thinking a very light pale blue close to baby blue but with less white in it. Maybe I will pare paint chips that are dark blue.

How about a pastel blue? As pastel is very light does evryone think this will match good?

Then do the carpet in black and the interior in the paztel blue as well. Then do the interior stiching in pink.
