Question subwoofer questions

I am planning a sub install in my FD. I am trying to use all the equipment I had from the Tahoe I had. My question is this. I have a couple of 15" woofers laying around, and was wondering if 1 of these in the car would be too much trouble? Whether or not 2-10's would be a bit easier install. I'm not going for a really loud system, more of a show set-up than anything. Like I said, I would like to use what I already have, but I think a 15 in a FD would be touch too much. Thoughts?

10's have better bass response and better sound quality. all depends on what you are looking for. if you want it to look good custom make a fiberglass box for the 15. but if it were me id get the 10's i like my crystal clear music.

10's

Yeah, I know the 10's will have better response. What 10's are you running? I thought about glassing a box and just having the 15 sit dead middle of the hatch area, to maximize area of the box. Also, if I run the 15, it will more than likely be inverted, it has a chrome basket, but only during shows really. For the most part it has to sound good. I listen to mostly rock- LP, Korn, Nickelback, e.g.- but will every once in a while listen to some Rap, though very little. You have any pics of your setup?

wow. /\ WRONG!
actually, partly right
it does all depend on the music you listen to, if it is just pure 100% rock or metal, then 1-2 10's will be fine in a sealed box
now, if you listen to a variety of music, such as myself, 1 12" sub is great. 2 12" subs is the most common, easiest to find prefabbed, and will give you the best overall sound possible, they are deep and throaty when needed, but can be dialed down when clarity is wanted.
if you are talking dimes and nickles, 1 12" in a sealed box, a 400-500w amp (2 channel or 1 channel, depending on taste) and you are set.
most custom made boxes, like fiberglass or w/e are easy when you use 2 12's, 1 12, 1 15, ect.
just have someone in your local area give you a quote on a custom box to delete the divider in the fd. being an experienced fiberglass installer and mecp certified installer, for a color matched fiberglass box/enclosure, i would say ~4-700, depending on who you go to.

peace

box

Yeah Mag, I thought about fabbing the box to take out the divider, and have the sub and amp box built in together. My local shops around here know how to build loud boxes, but not glassing, nothing like I have in mind. I'd have to make a good 30 min to 1 1/2hr drive to find a shop near me that could do the work I am thinking up, so I am trying to do this build myself. I've done kickpanels, and door panels FG, but not something as big as a sub box.

not much difference, just more mixture in the same %/%. thas all. and of course WAY more patience.
good luck, i do fg work, but i try to avoid if i can, it is tedious and eats alot of could-be-useful time.

Fg

I just hate sanding. I can handle the build and initial Glassing, but getting that box smooth, with no humps, I'd rather pull the motor and rebuild it. None the less, I am gonna give it a go, hopefully it will turn out the way I want it to.

pm me with the process build. i like seeing progress.
and what i use alot of the time, cuts time in half, is using a cutting wheel with a raised wire wheel. gotta be quick or youll burn through the glass VERY quickly.
works wonders if you are patient and soft.
