Stock stereo removal problem. Have the tool even
I have the tool for "easy" removal, but its not coming out. When I pull on
it with the tools in, it comes out about 1/8", but I can't get it out any
further. Same with the CD player. Any ideas? (This is the bose setup, but I'm sure its not limited to that)
Thanks
Jeff

it should slide right out, make sure you have the tool inserted all the way. You should feel it stop and then push it in a little more and then the whole thing should slide out pretty easy. If I remember corectly I think I had to remove the bottom first. Don't quote me on that is was about three years ago. I got mine out with coal hangers. Maybe you don't have the right tool, just a thought.

FWIW, the way the "tool" works is by pushing against some brackets on the head unit, so you want to bend the pins into the side of the head unit. Like this (overhead view):

Pins go inbetween. If you're using the special tool i would think you wouldn't need to do any pushing, but i used a coat hanger that wasn't as thick. Good luck.

Man,
I can feel it release, so I'm pretty sure the tool is working, but then it seems like it gets all caught up on the wires or something. Do I need to take all the panels off? Would that give me better leverage?

Ok, I had to wiggle it, basically there is a rubber bumper in the back that I thinks gets stuck in the hole its in. By wiggling the unit, I think it breaks it loose. When you have it out, be careful of the wires or they can break pretty easily, especially the antena ones, have some clippers around to cut them where they meet the antenna wire coming out. Its no big deal if you don't want to use your old head unit, but you never know if you want to put it back in to sell the car or something.
