Stock Mount Water Temp / Oil Pressure Gauges?

Has anyone ever tried replacing the stock water temp and oil pressure gauges with after market gauges? Is it possible? Or are the stock ones some weird size that doesn't exist in aftermarket? I have never taken my gauge cluster apart so I don't know what it looks like back there...

If anyone has ever tried this, please post up. Basically I'd like to know if there is some reason this won't work at all before I even attempt it.

The stock gauges are weird, but you saw my SPA replacement in the link above. My swap was pretty easy because the SPA gauges are shallow.

I also know of someone that replaced the water temp gauge with a VDO gauge, which is tricky because you have to cut out the flexible circuit board on the back of the gauge pod, and then "fix" it by soldering wires to replace the cut-out section.

Still others have ditched the stock gauge console entirely and used all aftermarket gauges in its place.

Thanks for the info... I'm going to try and find a cheap gauge cluster to experiment with.

I have experience with electronics and designing circuit boards, so I want to see if I can come up with an easy plugin solution, perhaps involving a custom-made flexible circuit board that directly replaces the stock one. I bet a lot of guys here would be interested in something like that...
