Question Stock BOSE CD/Stereo replacement

My 93 currently has the stock BOSE system. The CD player has recently started skipping and going haywire. Radio is fine. Speakers are fine. Is it possible to simply replace the CD/Stereo without replacing all the speakers? I contacted American electronics and other places, and they were saying it is doable but need some separate amp gizmos... the cost of the additional gizmos (besides the new Eclipse player I want) is about 150, including install. Are they accurate or just blowing smoke up my rear?

Yes, there is a harness you can purchase to connect an aftermarket headunit to the BOSE speaker system. Most places like Crutchfield carry the harness.
