stock bose CD player... wont play when cold

well i still have my stock bose system in my FD. i dont mind it and the sound quality is not bad (but its not the best either). however, im not ready to get into doing a full coustom all out system install. either way, my CD player will not play if the unit is physically cold.

if the car is cold it just flashes the track that i select and then spits out the CD. if i run the heater in the car (to raise the temp inside the car) it begins to slowly play the CD;s while it skips and then spits it out. eventually the lazer heats up the inside of the player enough to play whatever i put in it... burned or not. (its a bit more touchy with the burned CD;s... especially toward the further edges of the disc, at higher track numbers).

anyway, i was wondering if anyone has a fix for this problem (that does not involve buying a new head unit). thanks, heath

PS if i pull the unit and try to clean it.... what would be the propper solution and material to apply it in order to physically clean off lense itself?? (they used to sell a lense cleaner where you apply this liquid to a special CD... but they dont seem to sell lense cleaners that use a solution, and the dry ones do nothing).

I think a lot of people have allready had their factory units die on them...including me.

If you wish to continue to retain the stock apperance, there ARE shops online which service nothing but Bose OEM car headunits. I apologize for not having a link, but you should be able to yahoo "Bose OEM repair" or "Bose mazda repair" and you should get a few sites.

Atleast yours play when your laser is heated. My cd player only likes to play the first two tracks of burned cds and the rest just skip like crazy.

i got this from rob robinette's site:
Bose CD Player Fix
Since several people have expressed interest in the fix, or similar problems...
Thanks to Firas for pointing out that the Bose CD player has a Clarion sticker on it but it is really a Panasonic unit. At least it had a Panasonic return address when it came back. Panasonic says they replaced the optics in the CD player. Bill was $200 parts + $22 labor + $16 tax = $238 total, covered under my extended warranty. The lady said individuals may send the CD players back for repair, to Panasonic Co. OEM, 6550 Katella Ave, Cypress, CA 90630. Phone (714) 373-7500. For individual return they charge $120 flat rate plus parts, she quoted $106 for the optics, plus tax. The repaired unit so far has performed extremely well, not missing a beat even when cornering hard over some bumps. Hope this helps someone.

hope this helps
