Question Stereo Wiring and setup... very confused please help

I have a 93 touring edition 7 and I have the premium bose system. I am ripping the entire system out speakers, the wave, everything. So I have several questiosn and if possible answer as many as you can. First am I going to need some type of harness, since I am no longer running anything stock audio. I have a new alpine 9833 unit, so do I buy the alpine wiring harness that is offered at circuit city? Or do I need no wiring harness at all since all my audio will be aftermarket? Now I need help on how many watts I will need to run and what type of amps and how many?

This is what I have currently:
- Alpine cda-9833 h/u (currently 3 pre-amps)
- 3 12 " Alpine type-r subs 1000w peak power, 4ohm x 4ohm, 300 w rms, and frequency response 24hz-1khz
- Alpine 3-way componet speakers in the front, one left side and another on the right side
- Alpine 2 way speakers to go in the back, one in back left and one in back right

Now I would like to set up an all alpine system, so what type of amps should i be running, I know i will need more than one but how many? Please be specific.

If an amp is a 2 channel and it puts out 720, would 720 watts go to each sub, or would that be divided up so that 360 watts go to each sub? And would this answer go along with 4-channel? So if you have 200w than each channel put our 200 or 25?

I believe the 3 way componet speakers come with tweeters do I need any for the rear 2 way speakers?

Since my h/u has the 3 pre-amps, when I install my amps do I have to connect them to the battery, or do the amps just go to the back of h/u which recieves power from that battery.

So after all that is answered and god bless you for not killing your self yet, if i want to run more speakers do i just channel them through the amp which goes through to the h/u?

You guys are the best and any help is really appreciated as I am a little confused obviously

OKay, I am very bored so i'll give this a shot.

1- You only need the alpine harness that came with the head unit. Keep in mind that it is suggested you run a 10ga wiring kit just for the head unit due to the V-drive internal amp. Alpine even suggests doing so if you only plan on using the preamps.

You will then only need to use afew connections from the factory harness. Key-on power, antenna power and the dimmer i believe. You can use t-taps or scotchlock connectors for this. DO NOT CUT THE FACTORY HARNESS!!

2- Amplifiers- othe only numbers in car audio that concern you are the RMS. You may pretty much ignore the maximum ratings. You will need a 50w x4 rms amp to power your front and rear speakers. The subwoofer amp you will have some choices depending on how you end up wiring the subs. You will need at a minimum 2 amps.

3- To power the amps you will need to run a seperate large (4ga or larger) power wire from the battery to a distribution block where several 8ga or smaller power wires will then go to the amps. Same applis for the ground wire.

4- The pre-amps are only used to carry a signal over a rca or interconnect from the head unit, to the amp, then to the speaker. The preamps should be labeled Front, Rear and Non-fading(for the subs) and connect to the appropriate amp accordingly.

5- If you want to run more speakers after all of that you can still use the 60x4 max power from the head unit, use the line out from the amp to another amp, or split the rca somewhere before the amp into another amp.

6- You should not need any tweeters for the rear, most people do not even install rear speakers as it ruins the imaging, if they are installed it is just for fill. Most of the quality aftermarket 2way speakers have a tweeter anyway, its just attached to the speaker.

7- Determining the actuall wattage a given amplifier outputs is like deciphering a tire's sidewall. An amplifier rated 200wattsrms x 2channels at 14.4 volts at 4 ohm.

Allright its time to go kill myself

Bill

Thanks Bill, as I can only imagine how bored you would of had to beed to respond on to my ramblings Any ways one more questions, if I run the speaker wires from the amp to the speakers, do I still need to wire speaker wire from h/u to the speakers? And if I do that than their would be something I could do on my amp to decide on how many watts I want to sent to each right?

thanks
