clearcoat/gloss/semigloss on engine parts??
I'm not sure what the exact material he said he used, but one of the guys at my body shop said he just finished getting parts from his engine bay either clearcoated or coated w/ gloss/semigloss.
He said it would stand up to the high temps, no prob. I'm thinking hmmm...if this works well, and there are no downsides, couldn't you get say, an UIM chromed or polished, then paint it w/ the clearcoat/gloss, and be done w/ it? No need to re-buff, no worrying about staining, corrosion, etc?

Yeah... that will work with some paints. I use to wash a neighbors BMW 850 that had his entire engine cleaned and then clearcoated. I mean EVERYTHING minus a few like the belts and inside of the alternator and caps. All you had to do was spray it off if it every got dirty.

Eastwoodco.com sells a diamond clear coat for polished parts. It is claimed to hold up to heat. I cleared my LIM with it a year or so ago. It has held up ok. It does not leave as nice of a shine as without the clear. If you follow this link we have discussed this before.

I see that it can hold up to the hot temps...but I'm also curious about another factor...when the metal itself heats up, it normally dissapates a good portion of that heat to the surrounding environment (namely air), thus helping to cool the metal. I'm real curious if the clearcoat will hinder the metal's ability to dissapate this heat, which I'd think may be harmful to the metals structural integrity in the long run??
