You have 5 speakers. 1 center, 2 in the doors and two in the back that connect to the BOSE snake base unit.

IMO, unless there is something wrong with the stereo, use your money else where first.

However, yes, if you are going to replace the speakers, you will have less headaches replacing the entire system. You can replace just the head unit and then use a BOSE interface to still use the BOSE speakers.

right now there are 3 out of 5 speakers in the car

2 of the 3 speakers (dash and each on the door) are broken. the one on the dash and on the passanger door. i was told the two in the back had no speakers in them.

i think this is a reasonable reason to replace speakers

if i wanted to replace EVERYHTING that had to do with the stereo in the car (speakers, interface, etc.) about how much would it cost. and im thinking high quality, but not to the extreme

That's hard to say as there as so many different brands of everything. Just price up a head unit, an amp, and 4 speakers.

I'm not sure what size speakers will fit, but I'm sure if you search this forum someone else has asked that question.
