Stereo Pictures (non complete)

Hey guys
ive done the door pods, and basic construction of sub box

heres the piccies!
Splits (door pods)

thankyou northfield for help on this
-
False floor with amps mounted and starting the wiring, next is cutting out perspex cut outs in top plate and making hingeing (?) the side cut outs so i can get access easily to the jack and fuel pump

I removed back seats and made a fiberglass mould where bottom of seat would go (est of at least 40-50 litres just from bottom seat area, plenty enough for my Alpine Type R's (28 litres) ).

i still have to trim the fiberglass (note: time intensive) subs in for testing purposes

Closer view of subs

this will do for images for the time being, i will be starting up a website showing how *I* did it, i just need some hosting, and only like 5-10 meg of space (HINT HINT)

Thankyou for your time, and good luck.

OH MY GOD, talk about one of the WORST places to mount a tweeter, doesnt anyone know that there is a science to imaging, the whole idea is to get the speakers and tweeters as evenly apart from your ears as possible, well its the MOST impossible in the door panel. You should put them up on the dash, bouncing off the windshield, at least they are closer to a more "ideal" location, good luck though. I hope you have a time phase device(crossover) to delay the response of the left door activity with the right so everything hits you at once, as any GOOD high quality stereo will SHOULD do.

You are right about imaging being difficult to attain. It wouldn't, however, be handled by a crossover. A DSP unit can accomplish this, though. Imaging is a very difficult thing to quantify because with being intimately familiar with the recording being played, you can not know if you have good imaging or not. Kick panels are ideal for imaging, horrible for soundstage. The tweeters on the dash are a compromise of the two. Soundstage, is preferred by a huge majority of people listening to the system. Imaging is preferred by competitors and tweakers.

OK, to respond, I CANT put any thing in my kick panels, i live in australia, its right hand drive righT? and have you seen how much distance there is between the pedals and the kick panels? didnt think so.....

i WILL be adding some more tweets, as i have ALREADY STATED this is not finished, and as for the imaging, i cant really do much else, soon i will be sticking some tweets in the vents on the dash tho....

apart from that, tell someone who cares, it SOUNDS AWESOME, LOOKS AWESOME and im my book thats mission accomplished...
go vent somewhere else.

If the tweeters are mounted too far from the mids, it will cause the imaging to be way off. From my carstereo days we always mounted the tweets as close to the mids as possible, it creates much better imaging, while the soundstage is a bit low, when the volume is medium-high it images sooo much better and you don't notice the low staging very much. Just my opinion, but when I installed my boston pro 5.4's in my FD I played with the tweets everywhere, in the sail panels, in on the dash, but the doors, right next to the speakers sounded the best. Everycar is different however, and T2 the system looks very nice.

This is very true. You should always keep the tweeter within 1/2 the wavelength of the crossover freq.

Exclamation

I guess I am just a more extreme audiophile/tweaker because I like good imaging. Anyways, T2 sorry for coming off so harshly, you did do a good job on the install thats for sure, good luck with it and I am glad you are happy with it, after all thats all that matters right, once again, sorry for venting here, later.

Scott, I have one suggestion but it's usefulness depends on the box since it's hard to tell from the pictures. Are the mids on the front of the box sharing an enclosure with the subs? If so, seperate them.

Great job on the install though. Looks good!

the mids have their own enclosure. if you look at the triangular section on the first pic you'll see they're seperated from the subs.

although the mids appear to be aimed at the back of the head rest. but if omid likes it, can't complain right?
