Stereo Installation

Hey Guys,

I just purchased an eclipse cd player for my FD. Are there any hints, tips, tricks, or websites on how to remove the dash pieces so i can do the install? I searched but came up with either the wrong results or to many to search through in any reasonable amount of time.

This isn't a bose system, i have a 1993 r1 non-bose.

Thanks in advance.

Hey, you really dont have to remove the dash, but if you want.....

you can start either the arm rest console or the underside of the guage cluster, and i thnk you know how to do the arm rest part so ill tell you the guage cluster. Start with the steering column, remove all of that stuff, splits in 2 with 3 screws, than get on your back and remove the panel that sits over your legs with the air vent. That should be 2 screws. be careful to not tear the air hose that supplies the air to the vent, that hose entends upwards, it should just pull out but be careful. Then, you dont have to but to make things easier pull off the door sill, and that panel next to the dead pedal, it has those two push pins, Than you will be able to remove the connecting peice to the left of the guage cluster that connects/touches to the door, just pull outwards with that. Than there should be a screw behind there, pull that off. Now, sit in your drivers seat, and you will have to find a way to grab onto it, if its your first time it will be harder, the more you do it the easier it gets, you pull the guage cluster TOWARDS you towards the back of the car. the whoe thing will come out in a big pop that will scare the **** out of you. You can now completely remove the cluster if you like by pullin all the harnesses behind it, or just leave it there cuase the only way to get to the center consol with the A/c Control is to get past the guage cluster. Now you can probably see the two screws that were holdin on the a/c control panel. remove those two and the two at the bottm beneath the arm rest peice, and you can pull off that a/c control panel. good luck

why would you remove the dash to do a radio install in a FD???

The Stock FD radio uses standard Blaupunkt/Ford keys found at most stereo shops and car parts stores to remove. Then it just pops out through the front.

Wires are right there... plugs in...

You can bend up some coat hangers to do it, too. No need to remove the dash -- just slide out the old stereo.
