Spyfish007 - Got a question

I got a question regarding amps for ya, we have talked before, but I'll give you a little refresher

Setup:

Nak cd45z Head unit
CDT HD-62DT Components
MASS 12" Sub
150 amp Alternator
.5 Farad Cap (for now)

What I need now is some amps. Right now I'm looking at the above with the install kits/MDF and carpet casting 1700. I would like to keep this below 2800$. What I would like in the amps:

A good, clean 100-150 wattx2 @ 4ohms amp for the components (something that will compliment the Nak head unit)

For the subs I want a mix of SPL and SQ (lean towards SQ) - but also give me 800-1000 watts @ 2 ohms.

I've looked at PPI, Zapco and Xtant, but these are a little on the high side. The PPI amp I'm looking at is the

PCX2125 for the components (125x2 @ 4ohms) - 420$
PCX220 for the sub (800x1 bridged @ 2 ohms) - 520$

Can you give me others that may be better/cheaper. I only have about 1000$ to play with on the amps.

Thanks,
Jason

Sounds good .... look @ Phoenix Gold amps. PPI are good amps but not what they once were. Look at the Phoenix Titanium 600.2 amps ... real nice. I also like the new JL amps ... continually impress me. Looking forward to seeing pictures.

I have a spare Soundstream 414 Reference amp, never used if you are interested. I'm on the SW side, and we can meet up if you are interested. E-mail me if so.

PPI, the old stuff. The pro series. I have not heard the new stuff but I have heard that it is not as good. I have an old pro 6800 and it is the most bad *** amp. It is a little extrem for you application. Stay away from the Rockford Fosgate.

You might also look at the Arc Audio amps. Though very hard to find in many parts of the county, they have a very real warm sound that is simular to the older PPI (only with actual bass) or new JL amps, and they never break.

I hear Audison are now the shiznit. Focal (the speaker ppl) actually prefer these over the u-Dimensions that's on all there demo board.

I still like Phoenix but have heard they're not as good as they used to be. I had an MQ430 + MS2125 combo and most dealers told me I shudda kept them...o well.

Arc Audio is really good. The guy who owns the company and designs the amps used to design the killer Zapco stuff!

Yeah I'm ok ... doing better now but working all the time to get the new one up and running and the old one parted out! Nice spread in the SCC! I like the seats ... do you know if the MOMO street racers will fit?

Most people like the old ppi stuff. If you can ever find any art series amps-BUY THEM. There was also a in dash EQ (5 band) that was probably the best of its kind ever made!

Why are you selling the seats in your car? Have you tested the MOMOs yourself---meaning comfort and seating postion? Tempting me all the time ....

Nah, that about answered it. I will have to wait and see what the insurance company wants to do about my car (read post in 2nd Gen Forum to see) before I do anything else. If they fix the car, the money I have now and the money they are giving me for pain and suffering will get the two amps I need, plus two more caps - and then some .

I think I am gonna try and see how hard it would be to run dual stock alternators before I dish out 450$ on a single alt that will produce 10 amps less than the dual setup.

From what I can tell about all these amps, they are pretty much alike. The THD/Dampining/Signal to Noise Ratios are soooo close that I probably wouldn't be able to tell. I like the JL stuff, but it is pretty high dollar. Soundstream had decent prices and I can get two of there amps to meet my needs for the price of 1 PPI or JL amp to push my sub.

If the money permits I will probably add another 12 to my list - we'll see......

The only other question I would have is the firing direction of the sub. If no one has an answer I will be building a test box to find out for myself, but if you know it will save me some time.

I would like to place the sub(s) at the rear most of the car and fire them up. This is mainly for cosmetic reasons, but I will change my mind if firing them towards the back of the car will yield better results. My plans right now is to build a false floor and mount the subs/amps/caps etc into the floor. Might take some time, but I thing it will look damned good. If I go with a single driver I have a picture of a rotor that I'm gonna get sewn into the carpet around the sub (so that the "hole" in the center of the rotor is the driver).......

Jason

By the way, my thanks goes out to Spyfish and Boostd for all ya'lls help. I think I got the best equipment for the sound I'm looking for. If not for you two I would probably have a bunch of Fosgate stuff in my car. I don't like them at all, but it is pretty much the standard around here. It'd be kinda neet to produce a better sound with equimpent that most people around here have never heard of. As a matter of fact, they are laughing at me for getting "the cheap $hit"........ Let's see who laughs last

LOL ...

Try your test box so you can learn. I think you will find up yields a better sound with back giving more punch.
