Speakers in FC rear tower

I got a set of 6" round Cerwin Vegas for the towers in the back of my 87 TII. They sound like ****, and I know the speakers are capable of alot better. My question is, are the speakers not getting enough room since the tub they're mounted in is really small? I drilled a few holes and mounted them in the plastic tub that looks like it had a factory crossover mounted in it. I filled it with some poly fill **** that my bro had and it made it a little better, but I think I need to cut the bottom of the tub out or make some kind of a port to get some more bottom end from the speakers. What do you guys think? Any other experiences that might help me out? thanks

it's most likely your 6"s don't have enough room. try this, unscrew the bottom of the tub and just place the lid with the speaker back in the tower. see how that sounds.
