speaker - misc questions
Could someone pls tell me the following for 88 vert and 90 GXL, pls:
1. What is the MAX depth for the door speaker?
6.5 inch fits at the door-producing only low end freq.?
2. Dash - what is the MAX depth for the dash speakers?
4 inch fits at the dash - producing full range of freq?
90 GXL only:
1. The Rear tower speaker: what is the max depth for these?
do I need speaker connector adaptors? how did you guys do it?
TIA
I have stock heads in both. and they work fine. :-)

I have a 90 vert.
The door speaker is very deep. I think I measured almost 4", but I do not have total recall on that. I put in a new mid-woofer that is 2.6" deep, and there is lots of room behind it.
I don't have any under dash in my vert, can't help you there.
The speaker mesh/cover/door panel rattles in mine around 50-70 hz, so I have the speakers crossed above that, anyway. A component set is a must in the vert, to get the highs up to compete with wind noise. Helps the soundstage too.
I also wasn't satisfied with the clarity and volume until each side was getting 100W rms. Keep that in mind.

did the door speaker have a 3hole setup or a regular 4 hole setup?
I took apart the 90 GXL,
3 Hole Full rangle coax blaupunkt was in it. some water had totally destroyed the foam,
I found the depth to be exactly 2 inch. from the cut in the metal to the glass rail.
I looked everywhere for a similar 3 hole speaker but &^^% could not find one, so I got pioneer 6.5 coax. have to drill holes for the screws as the origal 3 hole is kinda over size. I will post some pics of it soon.

the 90 i have had the 3 hole mount. I'll send you my old pioneer full-ranges for the cost of shipping. I don't need them anymore
I had to drill holes to mount my component woofer in there, I also persuaded the door a bit with a sledge to get a flat mounting area - the woofers were 1/4 or so wider than the stock speakers.
My door is definitely deeper than that - too bad the coupe must have a different window design.

I went through this crap this weekend. We tried two sets of speakers in the dash. The first were too deep and the second wouldn't mount up. Couldn't even drill holes becuase only one hole would be over metal :-/
What speakers actually FIT without drilling, making a mounting plate, etc.?
I got a 2" depth also BTW.

sorry - I don't have any info on the dash mounting. I have a convertible, which only has a dash location on the passenger side, and it is empty by design.
The speakers in the doors appear to be the same size in both the coupe and vert, but the convertible has more room behind them - I can see clear to the outer skin in my vert, and apparently the coupe has glass between.

hmmm, vert does not have dash speakers? my 88 vert has dash speakers,
spankenstein - I spoke to a rex god in kc and he said ANYTHING fits there, but I think, like you I will find out that is not true.
anyway, I will open up and take out a dash speaker out of my vert and take it to bestbuy or something and see what matches it. I will also take some picture and post later

Stockrex,
I'll look at that model # tonight when I get home. Had the doors off again this weekend to change the tweeter attenuation on the crossover - stupid idea to put that IN the door, behind the woofer. had to take everything out. Oh well.
We're talking the stock factory speakers, I remember they are 25W, paper with a whizzer cone. 3 hole mount. You're welcome to them.

My Infinity's came with an adaptor ring for pretty much any type of screw configuation that manufacturers put in there.
The rear of the GXL is REALLY nice because you have 6+" of clearence. You probably will have to make something to adapt the 6.5" speakers in back though...

stockrex, the part number is:ts-06150.
I imagine it differs from yours, as these are full range, and the coupe door speakers are for bass only.
These respond down to 40 hz, but pick up their 3 db somewhere in the 50's or 60's.
Let me know if you want 'em - send me a pm.
