soundgate on BOSE system?

I wanna put an aftermarket deck in my car. I have a 93' touring with the BOSE sound system. Is a soundgate required? To avoid blowing the speakers? Anyone out there willing to share what they did to keep the stock speakers working with the amp AND an aftermarket deck?

WTF is a "soundgate"?

There's been full write-ups of using aftermarket head units with the Bose system. In fact, there's two stickies at the top of the page dealing with the issue.

I called this car stereo place and asked them if it was possible to install an aftermarket deck in my BOSE system. Considering that the stock deck now gives a very low output to the amplifier in the system then is distrubuted out to each speaker as a higher wattage signal giving you great sound. Well my question was that if i got an aftermarket deck... with HELLA higher watts than the stock one (52x4) they told me that i would need a sound gate to lower the output coming from the deck to the amplifier so i dont overpower my speakers. But then i went to another car stereo place and they looked up my car and they stated that my car did not need any soundgate at all. They stated that my amp is meant for more power and will love the power coming from my aftermarket deck. So anyone got any opinion on this? I know someone outthere has an aftermarket deck using the stock bose system. So please share how you did it. Thanks

So all u basically do is just remove the stock units, then connect with converter with the adapter to the stock white connectors(big and small), then you connect your B/W amp wire to the LG/B wire on the stock big white connector harness, connect my BLUE wire on the aftermarket deck with the antenna wire on the stock single wire connector (i believe its brown) and i should be set? (yes i did the whole thing but i want you to confirm that i read everything correctly) Thx

I hope you didn't hack up the stock wiring harness. Did you get an aftermarket harness?
