i didnt read much of this but .
the best thing to do for sound proofing and not putting much weight in there. use spray foam before you do take eveyting out cover everything. then start spraying the expand foam in everything .if you do it will take 9 can 3.99 each at hommy depo then use dyno mat where you need to. when your at home depo get carpet padding and silicon about 10 to 20 tubes 1.00 each .put it on the back of the plastic put the capet padding in he midle of plastic and the car. your car will be just like a bmw. and spray the bottom of your car inside and out with under coating . ohhhh and i got a 6 1/2/ to fit in my kick panle .you have to move some stuff and cut. and in the door 6 1/2. the rear 61/2 woofer only. in the trunk 1 13inch kenwood sub .before you say anything bad about kenwood its 2000 watts sub a very f en lound .i am running 2 1000 watt zapco amp to this woofer and its takes all that its has .

spyfish,
why did you dampin the door were you did?
i have done numerous dampening jobs, but have always put the dampening material on the inside of the outerskin of the door. doing this reduces road noise and also stops the outerside of the door vibrating when ya stereo is cranked.
Nice write up though, i will try your approach on my next job and see if there is any difference.
Cheers

I've always done it this way.
I get sound dampening and the door becomes an enclosure for my midbass. Seriously, I use QTC baffles to dampen the mid driver, but the sound dampening does seem to further seal the front side and the back side of the speaker and dampen the vibrations of the panel the speaker is attached too.
One final note, I think it is somewhat difficult to line the outer door skin with the roll on stuff. I have used the spray on stuff before.

New Sound Damping stuff called Dead Zone. The company is called Xion. They have a few different dampening products. I dont know how good their other products are but the Dead ZOne product is awesome. I had this annoying rattle in my doors. I sprayed it on. I was an audio installer for a couple years so Ive seen the usual Dmat and Cscde. The rattles gone and theres an actually pretty noticable difference in roadnoise. I wish I would of had this stuff when I had my ride stripped down. their website is www.xionind.com

This post is useless without the link. Has anybody looked at reviving the link in the lastfew months??? I mean it is late November and the link has been gone for months. Maybe we should just get the text and post it to the here with pictures being linked or something. I am not a internet guru so I don't know how to fix it.

Just wanted to add to this thread.
I've also been considering sound dampening for a long time. And in the course of that, I was told something interesting by a friend who frequents a Bronco-owners board.
A number of those guys use roofing underlayment instead of hella-expensive products like BorwnBread. They say it does the same job at a fraction of the price.
I haven't done this myself yet, but I plan to (if I can ever get my car off the road long enough to dig into her.)
Here's a page describing underlayment:
http://doityourself.com/waterproof/iceandwater.htm
A little calling around locally and I found one roofing contractor's supply store selling 3'x80' rolls of "Iko Armour Guard" for $74.94 each. That's in Canadian funds, so you US guys should chop about 20% off that to get an idea of what it'll cost down there...
