I know several people have been asking about sound dampening lately. Well I just recently go through doing my doors and I did a write-up about it. You can find it on my website located in the link below.

Very nice write-up Spyfish, I will be doing this in the next 2 weeks. With my Boston Pro's 6.5^3, can I just put the woofer in the door and the mid/tweeter in the stock kickpanel? Is there enough room? Is this possible for decent sound even if I put brown bread behind it? Or cutom kicks? Thanks....

6.5" in door is fine. You will need to relocate the ECU on the passenger side to make room for custom kicks for the 4" & tweeter.

how much quieter is it now?

I can't hear the tire noise anymore and the wind noise is down a little. The exhaust is still loud but I'm looking to go back to a hi flow cat soon. When I do that change, then it will be a good test. I've done this before (on my old FD) and it helped.

I pulled my carpet and headliner out so I could swap them to black. Do you think doing the floor and top would make a big difference?

I was thinking of using Dynamat on my FD. Do you know how much weight was added from the material you used? Also, thanks for posting this thread, it will definitely help me out.

That stuff looks nasty. I can just see trying this in mid-summer here in Texas, 110 degrees. Good job and nice write up though.

I'm not sure doing the top would help as much as the floor. It really depends on how crazy you want to get. I think the doors are the weakest point for sure.

The stuff doesn't weight that much. I maybe added 3 or 4 lbs to each door and that was too layers. I think the entire 35 ft^3 roll weights something like 10 or 15 lbs tops. I think to add this stuff all over wouldn't hurt anything. Unless you are going for all out speed, then a few extra pounds won't hurt LOTS of extra horsepower.

The stuff can be nasty. I've done it in the summer and the sweat running done your hands doesn't help any.

Hey Spy.. After reading this thread and doing some research, I bought a 70sq ft roll of Brown Bread, and stripped out the entire interior and doors and did the floors, the doors, the rear side sections, and had a little bit left over for the trunk.. There's a noticible reduction in noise.. Not a huge amount, but I can tell its been muffled a bit.. The biggest difference was in the stereo though.. I used to have to crank up the volume to 15 on my stereo to hear anything on the freeway.. now all I need is 10.. 15 is MUCH too loud.. Brown Bread is some good stuff.. half the cost of Dynamat extreme, but gives the same performance..

Dan: Good to hear your report. Out of curiousity, what exhaust system/mods do you have? Currently I can't hear the road noise because of the exhaust! You will also find that the midbass of your front speakers will be much improved. Road noise masks midbass more than any other frequency in my opinion. Got any photos?

Sorry for the late response.. Been pretty busy.. Anyhow, I have a Apexi Dunk with no precat, its not a setup thats too loud.. But yeah, there was a little drop in noise.. And a huge gain in overall sound volume.. Hmm.. I did take some pics.. I'll have to do some snooping around to find em..

have any of you guys tried the rubberized undercoating in addition to dynamat or "brown bread"? i might do this combo in the (far) future, instead of going with dynamat extreme, when i finally get around my other priorities and start building up my stereo system.

ok if you want to go a cheaper but just as effective way get fatmat it comes in 100sqr ft rolls for 99 dollars it has been proven to be better than dynamat just look on ebay the company sells on there and when i get around to it i will strip ou the complete interior and completely cover it the firewall 2-3 layers and the rubberized spray for areas i cant get the fat mat the floors 2-3 layers and a single layer on the roof and any other bare peice of metal you should notice a severe drop in sound close to the silence of a lexus and man o man your sterio will never sound so good
yeah it may be over board but hey if its only going to cost you 200 dollars i say its worth it even if you maybe add 50lbs.

there is just something about a really quiet interior that i love hmmm maybe cause i love to relax
